What does hdc mean?

Forgive me for being clueless! But I have no idea what it means.:blush It's an abbrevationin a bag im trying to make. I havent got past the first chain.:blush

hdc is half double crochet.

It's yarn over (yo) the hook, insert hook into the next stitch. Yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops.

The turning chain for a hdc has to be 2 chains long
