(Yeah, I'm pregnant.:P)

Please note that I am left-handed. That should not affect the pattern much, but you might need to crochet in BLO where I say FLO & vice versa.

Gauge: With G hook, 3 rows of 4 HDC = 1".
Finished Size: Approx. 14" circumference; sized for a newborn (Many thanks to the lady who mentioned newborn heads are about the size of a grapefruit; I did indeed measure the one grapefruit we have in the house & found it to be the circumference my books all say is the same as a newborn's head.)
Materials:
G hook
approx. 1.5 oz white sport/baby weight yarn
small amount blue sport/baby weight yarn (use pink for a girl's hat; yellow or green for a unisex one) Yarn used for sample is Red Heart Baby Soft pompadour. Unfortunately, I think my 16-month-old ate the label so I can't give you an exact name for that pretty dark blue.
stitch marker or bobby pin to use as stitch marker
yarn needle

Chain 2.
Rnd 1: Sc 7 times in 2nd chain from hook. DO NOT JOIN. Place marker in last stitch, move as needed to keep your place. 7 sc
Rnd 2: HDC twice in each st around. 14 hdc
Rnd 3: (HDC in 1 st; HDC twice in following st) around. 21 hdc
Rnd 4: (HDC in 2 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 28 hdc
Rnd 5: (HDC in 3 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 35 hdc
Rnd 6: (HDC in 4 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 42 hdc
Rnd 7: (HDC in 5 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 49 hdc
Rnd 8: (HDC in 6 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 56 hdc
Rnd 9: Working in BLO (err, the loop facing away from you, at any rate), HDC in each st around. 56 HDC
Rnds 10 - 14 HDC in each st around. 56 HDC.
Rnd 15 Working in FLO (or, the loop closest to you), HDC in each st around.
Rnd 16 - 19 HDC in each st around. In the last st of row 19, switch to blue yarn. 56 hdc
Rnd 20 HDC in each st around. 56 hdc.
Rnd 21 Sc in each st around. Finish off. 56 sc

Finishing: Weave in any loose yarn ends. Fold up rows 15 - 20

Please let me know if you see any obvious mistakes.
