Hello all,

I found a great pattern for a beret with a brim that I want to make..the instructions are a little confusing:

Rnd 1: 10 hdc in ring. (10 sts) Note: Ch 2 counts as first hdc of each round. Always join rounds with ss. Crochet in back loops only, unless specified.
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each st. fpdc on every alternate increase (20 sts) (5 fpdc)
Rnd 3: (1 hdc in 1 st, 2 hdc in next) rep. around. (30 sts) Note: Fpdc on every fpdc on this and every following hdc round.

My question is - on Row 2 where it indicates fpdc on every alternate increase, I don't get what I am supposed to do :think and then Row 3 says to fpdc on every fpdc on this and every following hdc round :think

I wanted a simple pattern for a cute hat with a brim, but I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one :(

looks like to me is that the first st you do 2 hdc then comes the second st you 1 hdc and frontpost in same st.then third st you do 2 hdc then fourth st you do 1hdc and one front post in and so forth.that will give you total of 20 st. 5 of them will be fp.
then when you come to rw3 you fp in fp and also in the next hdc. because you will have three hdc in a row with fdc as you go.

here is a tutorial for the front post stitch (fpdc) http://www.nexstitch.com/v_front_back_post_stitch.html

on round 2, when you do 2 stitches in each stitch, that is an increase. sounds like on this round every 4th stitch you make should be a fpdc.

on round 3, and subsequently, you are to make a fpdc in every fpdc.

post stitches aren't really hard but you might want to practice them a bit before starting the hat.

hope this helps. :)
