Crochet-Alongs

What is the concept of Crochet Alongs? I'm new here. Can someone explain it to me?

A crochet along is just a group of people that are making the same thing or the same type things and posting their progress , problems and pictures. You keep the items your making unlike swaps where you would be sending your item to someone and receiving something from another participant.
