View Full Version : Hearts & Diamonds Throw
crosette
June 20, 2005, 11:54 PM
This is a throw I made for my brother for his birthday a few months ago. He wanted it to match another (not crochet) throw they have in their living room. Was surprised when he wanted something so heart-y but....whatever. :D
This is the biggest thing I've made so far....it really wasn't that bad and the good "I finished it" feeling at the end is sooo much better than when you make something tiny like a bootie or something. :P
The pattern is from a free Red Heart leaflet "Crocheted Throw Hearts & Diamonds". I tried to find it online but no luck.
I used RHSS in Burgundy and Aran.

Here in Natchez, Mississippi too, I was in my local W-M last week and was about to pick up a couple of cute patterns until I noticed they were in Spanish. I'm good, not that good :hook

Hi - What a great afghan....I am curious about how long this took you??
Um...It took a while. I started it w/o checking gauge first :badideaso I ended up having to frog like...half of a panel or something. Once I got gauge I ran out of the Burgundy and had to wait a while to get some. Once I had all the yarn I needed I got bored and stopped working on it for a while. So...w/o all that...it probably took like...um....ok...I really don't know how long. :P
I know the last day I worked on it for like 12 hours straight b/c I wanted to be rid of it already and that was only for like 2 panels including side borders, sewing, top and bottom borders, and end weaving. So...maybe like 20 hours or so? Does that sound ridiculous? I dunno. :blush
That looks so complicated.
It really wasn't complicated at all. At first it was a little tricky but once I got into it I pretty much memorized the pattern and it was much easier w/o having to keep looking at the pattern sheet. :P
Oh that is so beautiful, Connie!! :jumpyay

This is one of my favorite quick patterns. I've made it many times and in many color combo's.
Here's a few of what I did:

RHSS Red/White
Got one on the hooks that will have two heart panels red, two heart panels blue and white diamonds (I hope that's the way it will work out)
I've even made it with variegated diamonds (a little tricky.. trying to make sure the patterns match.. but fun).
I find each heart takes about an hour to make.. so figuring 28 hearts.. that's at least 28 hours. I think the whole thing takes me anywhere from 40 to 60 hours. Still not very long.
