I am looking how to make a pixie hat... Whether that be a pattern or someone just giving me a general idea how to make a hat like this:

This pic is a small version, but I'd like to make it big enough for myself to wear.

If you have an advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. :)

No one knows how to crochet a hat like this?

It looks like it's made in sc, and maybe even spiraled (no joining I mean). You could probably start at the top with some sc in a ring, and then slowly increase and gradually increase the amount you're increasing until it's big enough to go around your head, and then just go around and around from there.

Do you think it would be necessary to count my rows and stitches?

To be honest, I don't really know...lol If you're going to make more than one, I'd definitely keep track. Otherwise, it's up to you. It might be helpful when figuring out your rate of increase. I'd at least make sure to mark the beginning of the round.

How would you start it off if it were you? I don't want the tip to be super skinny at the very end, because as you can see it's more like a rounded tip at the end...

think that the rounded tip can be made when you sew in your tail maybe.:think

I always sew in the tail on the inside of the hat... I'm kind of confused by what you mean.

Usually 6 or 8 single crochets in a ring don't end up very pointy. I'd probably pick 6 sc and try that first.

The shape of the top kind of reminds me of the pic in this post: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1491169 where it was increased every 7th stitch. If you did something similar, and stopped just before it got curly, it might work.

That could possibly work... I am going to experiment with it and see what happens.

Crocheting is such a nice skill to have when it's cold outside... It's a pricelss skill in fact.

I found this hat that has a little bit of point on the top dont know if that might help or not.

Would this (http://*****************************hats/pixie-fringe-hat-pattern.html)help? Or this (http://*****************************hats/pixie-roll-hat-pattern.html)?

I've seen those patterns... I don't really think they would work very well. I could try to make the tip from the pixie roll hat and then do my own thing after that. I am not sure yet. I attempted to do some experimenting last night and it didn't go very well. Haha.

Omg, I love you! You are the best! The first one you posted is what I am looking for... I think I am going to add some earflaps to it... Does anyone think that would look good?

Also, I've never added earflaps to anything before... What is the general process? I understand the hat making part, it's just the earflaps kind of confuse me. :blush

Here's my favorite pixie hat from:
SWEATERBABE (http://www.sweaterbabe.com/product_cp18.htm)

I like the one from sweaterbabe, but it's not what I am looking for... I want to make a pixie hat with ear flaps...

I wanted to put these earflaps (http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/chs-pomhat.html) on the hat, do I make the hat separately and then crochet the earflaps separately and sew them onto the hat? I'm confused!!!

EDIT: That pattern is a little strange... I chained four and then tried making four DCs and by the time I got to four DCs there was still a big gap that needed to be filled until I got to the chain four part, so I tried slip stitching it anyway, and there is a big gap between the first chain four and the last DC. :(

Use 5 dc in the "magic ring" instead :) Magic ring: http://crochetme.com/Dec_Jan_0405/reads_round.html
To add the earflaps, I would look at another earflap-hat pattern and try to figure out where the earflaps should go. And then I would pick up stitches, and crochet the earflaps "downwards" (decreasing stitches).
Did that making any sence?

Sounds good... What I'm wondering is, why would you suggest that I look for another earflap pattern? If you know of a good one, please let me know... I want the earflaps to be like a triangle.

When I made my first earflap-hat, one of the earflaps totally missed the ear it should cover :blush
I only meant that you could get an idea from a earflaphat-pattern where to place the earflaps :) So that you don´t make the same mistake as I did.
These earflaps are triangles: http://www.******************.com/free/flap.html

So, is that earflap pattern to sew the earflap after the hat is finished?

No, it looks like you´re joining the yarn for the earflap in the last round (round 19) of the hat pattern.

I would try this: in the last round of the pixie hat you should have 58 sts. The earflap hat pattern has 56 in round 18. I would decrease two stitches in the last round of the pixie hat, so that you have 56 sts. Then I would continue with round 19 in the earflap pattern (but maybe it will look better if you use dc instead of sc? Since the pixie hat is made out of dc sts). That way it will be really easy to make the earflaps, just follow the rest of the earflap-pattern :)
Please let me know if this wasn´t clear enough. Explaining things in english isn´t always so easy...

Looks like a vintage hat but I've seen it or one like it on crochetpatterncentral.com and or vintage patterns.

Good luck.

This one has seperately made earflaps.
http://www.caron.com/projects/q/q_Q10_peruvian_hat.html
You fasten off the yarn and then work the ear flaps where you want them on the hat. I think the pattern would work if you made the appropriate foundation chain, worked the rest of the flaps, and then sewed them on.
