Baby headbands and matching dresses or sweaters are cute. Hooded bath towel and washcloth or bath mit with a face on it--maybe bunny ears. A mobile? Somewhere I saw a pattern for a positioning snake to help prop the baby where you want her and for warmth to curl it around. Also, you can never have too many burp cloths.

I have made a number of baby mats for dressing tables or as portable diaper changing mats. New moms always seem to love these. I just use the potholder stitch and three strands of a sport weight yarn, like TLC baby, in variegated yarns. Sometimes I attach a few fridgies for babies at the corners.

A potholder stitch tutorial is here. http://tinyurl.com/8zoek (http://tinyurl.com/8zoek)

Here as also some patterns using the potholder stitch for practice.
