I do hope that I can get in on this one. I have some filet crochet patterns that I really want to start to work on, I am not sure of myself when it comes to filet crochet though and I think this will help me much.

Will you be instructing on how to increase and decrease stitches??

Katchkan
December 10, 2008, 12:18 PM
Not in this class. I teach that in my advanced crochet class which I wll be offering either in Febuary or March. This class is just the basics. Will you be instructing on how to increase and decrease stitches??

I just signed up for the class and can't wait until it starts....something different for me to look forward to. I've only done one other filet project, which was a wedding gift for my cousin. I have other filet projects that I want to do, but don't know how to increase and decrease...which I saw will be in another class coming up!

Happy crocheting,

Marie

I VALUE this question and answer Kathy, as I know the basics so to speak of filet, have done "several" pieces, BUT I do want to take your ADVANCED class, I feel strongly there is ALLWAYS something new to learn that I don't know, and for YOU being the teacher, just has to be the best thing ever, to be able to say "Yea, I learned that from Kathy White" is amazing to me. I talk so much crochet to ANYONE that will listen, that believe me, EVERYONE that knows me, knows who Kathy White is.
Okay I reviewed this three times now for spelling errors, I appologize now if there are any...my pain meds are kicking in..lesson to self, dont try to type in the middle of night on post surgery pain meds...:lol

:c9 I'm all signed up and looking forward to class! I have several books and magazines at home with lovely filet patterns in them but found the instructions kinda intimidating! Now I'm ready to jump in with both feet, yippee! ....or maybe I should say with both hands!

Do you have a recommendation for thread size to start with if you have never tried filet before?

Katchkan
January 22, 2009, 12:43 PM
We are learning technique in this class so you can use what ever size you are most comfortable with. I am a thread lover so I use thread a lot. But you can do filet in any size yarn also. Just be sure to use the corresponding hook size to whatever you choose to use. I wouldn't recommend bulky weight yarns as the design would be hard to see. But I have used worsted weight for several project in the past.

Size 3 thread is a nice place to start with thread if you aren't used to thread as a medium and you want to use thread. The most common thread size is size 10 which is what I did all the pieces for this class in.

Main thing is you need to comfortable with what you are using so you can focus on what I am teaching. Changing mediums can come later if you so desire.

I will more then likely use RHSS and either an I or H hook as that is what I am used to using. I think that for myself I need to hold something that I am used to.

January 22, 2009, 05:11 PM
Oh not me! I WANT to learn to be comfortable with thread! :jumpyay

dilyca2006
January 22, 2009, 05:26 PM
My thought is that after I learn how to do filet I can move on to thread. I have not done anything with thread in years!!! It is good to be able to do both I think!!!!

Oh not me! I WANT to learn to be comfortable with thread! :jumpyay

I have mostly size 10 thread in my stash, so that's what I'm going to use for the class. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. :-)

I wanted to say I took Kathy's class last year and it was fabulous! Kathy was very "hands-on" and available whenever you needed her help. So I recommend this class HIGHLY!!!!

I got the first sampler done yesterday!!! After reading all of the instructions I am feeling fairly confident with this. Of course, throw something difficult at me I might turn with my tail between my legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

January 25, 2009, 10:01 AM
Yeah for you, Diane! :clap I had to frog my 1st one back to the 2nd row. :devil Seems I can't focus on the pattern when DH is home. ;) He keeps breaking my concentration by sharing news he's found while surfing on his computer. :P
I'll finish the it tomorrow while he's at work. :D

dilyca2006
January 25, 2009, 10:30 AM
My dh will do the same thing. I just put my finger where I was when he starts talking. Sometimes I can even listen to him and work on this!!!!LOL
When I do graph ghans I have a magnatic board and a magnetic strip to keep my place. For the graph for the sampler I copied off the graph, cut it down and used paper clips to clip another piece of paper over the graph underlining where I am. It really helped me keep my place.
