I hope you are all as excited about our January classes as we are. We're even happier to say that more classes are on the way! Teachers have until December 8 to submit their class description information, so please keep checking back in this folder for updates to our January class roster.

Please feel free to use this thread to let us know what classes you're thinking about taking plus any suggestions you may have for other classes you'd like to take.

If you're a teacher and you want to know more about teaching classes here at the 'Ville, just send a PM to AmyS (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/member.php?u=102).

Registration will open December 15!

I'm seriously thinking about that beaded rope class. I've been eyeing patterns to do that and keep thinking maybe someday... well, looks like someday may be coming soon!

Doesn't that bead rope class look fabulous? I've done lots of beadweaving with tiny seed beads, a needle, and thread, but I've never really done much bead crochet.

I've already got all the supplies I'll need if I raid the kids' pony bead stash!

I am very excited, the classes look wonderful so far!

I would love to do the designing for publication class, but am not at the right stage for it - it looks wonderful and interesting, though.

I highly recommend the beginning filet with Kathy White for anyone interested in learning filet...

I am thinking about the socks class as I have a skein of Rainbow coloured Opal sock wool waiting for me to do something with it :lol...

I'd be interested in tunisian as I've been playing around with it a bit on my own, and entrelac looks interesting too, Irish crochet would be lovely and the thought of Bruges lace intrigues me too... looking forward to seeing what else comes down the pike :D :hook.

Cheers,

I'm interested in the bead rope class and am looking forward to register for that class.
Since this is the very first time I will be taking a class like this. Do I buy the materials here or do I have to go to different stores and get the materials?
Thanks in advance for any help that you may be able to give me.
Happy crocheting!

Oh, and by the way, Thanks to Donna and Amy, the planned schedule for classes for 2009 looks like a fabulous idea and the outcome of hard yards of planning. Fingers crossed that it will come to fruition with appropriate supply (of teachers and classes) and demand...

Betty, you'll need to purchase your supplies elsewhere. You should be able to find everything you need at most craft stores.

Oh I would like to do the bead rope class please. Just have to get all the supplies. Not sure what cotton I can get here thats equivalent to what you have put on the list. Also can I use size 9 beads as I have heaps of these and it would be silly to have to go buy more.

Is there any chance for a class on Entrelac? I'd be interested in that one.

And Bruge lace was mentioned previously. I've done one pattern, and would love to learn tips and techniques for this art form.

You would need to ask the instructor that question. I think it might be more difficult learning on the smaller beads. Remember that you have to be able to feed the yarn/thread through the beads.

You can send Karen a PM to find out about your bead size.

Entrelac is a specific form of Tunisian crochet when you work in diamonds. As far as I understand it, the following logical connection holds:

All entrelac crochet is tunisian.
All tunisian crochet is not entrelac.

Hi,

All entrelac is not tunisian :)

I did a book called Single Crochet from A to Z which demonstrates 26 different single crochet stitches, made with a regular crochet hook, of which entrelac is one of them. You can see it here:

http://www.anniesattic.com/detail.html?prod_id=21702

It is the blue and rust square on the second row from the bottom.

I would really like to take the class about submitting designs for publication, but I would need to know what supplies I need before I take ANY class. If I don't have the money for the supplies, I won't be able to complete it and would feel like I wasted money on the class. Does that make sense? Is there any way to know which supplies are needed for each class before we register?

I would definitely like a class on entrelac and perhaps something that deals with changing colors and carrying the yarn up the side.

in the brief description (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/classes.php)of the class it calls for size 10 thread but in the full description (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=89679) is calls for omega nylon size 5 thread. do we need both?

Also count me in as one who would be interested in an enterlac class in the future.

Have question for the Design for Pub. class, is there a prerequisite that you can write a pattern? I can graph and chart, but it is the putting it in words that stumps me. Also as stated before materials and supplies.
Also like the beaded rope class.

The class summaries are not meant to be complete information about each class. They're meant to pique your interest enough to get you to look at the full class description thread.

The actual class description thread will have a complete supply list.

You will need both sizes thread for this class. You'll learn the technique with larger beads and yarn, then you'll progress down to the size 10 thread and seed beads for a rope size that you could use for jewelry.

Hey all,

About the Designing for Publication class - required materials should be whatever you have on hand - yarn, hooks, a sketch book, whatever. You might want to purchase some envelopes or page protectors when it's time to send your submission off (if you are doing a mailed sub rather than an emailed sub) but if you are already thinking about designing, I can't imagine you don't have most of what you need already cluttering up your house!

As to pattern writing - this is NOT a pattern writing class. We will go over a few style points and I will provide info on available standard, but the student should have a fair grasp of basic pattern writing.

That said, I don't really write up my patterns usually until after I sell them, and I do not include full patterns in submissions, so it is entirely possible you could take this class without being an expert technical writer. The trick of course would be what would you do if the pattern sold before you had the skills to write it!

Alright now I'm really excited about this class. I do however have 1 question. Does the pattern you send to the publisher have to have an international copyright on it before you submit it? I know that technical when you write a pattern it is copyrighted, but I know for the document to stand up in court it have to be officially copyrighted.

I was curious because I have many patterns I found on the web and some books, that only give basic instructions, such as beginning chain length, turning procedures, pattern stitch etc...and then tell you to follow the graph/chart. Examples are doily patterns, filet crochet.
I think I will attempt the class anyway, and hopefully if accepted, be able to know exactly what I need to send.
Thank You for explaining it all.

Will there be a limit to the number of participants in each class?

Yes, each teacher can set the maximum number of students for a class. This information is provided in the thread for each class. Just scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see the approximate number of students the teacher will accept into the class.

Actually, this is only partially correct. All documents are protected by copyright law without requiring registration of the copyright. If someone infringes on your copyright, you can still take them to court to stop the infringement, even without a copyright registration. But just about all you can do is stop the infringement; you cannot seek damages.

Registration simply gives you MORE recourse in court: the ability to seek financial compensation for loss of revenue and punitive damages, for example. For more information, please check out the US Copyright Office website (http://www.copyright.gov).

The classes I've been talking about are all starting in January. However, we have plans to offer classes every other month (March, May, July, September, November).

Some of the classes will definitely be repeated throughout the year, especially if there is enough member demand for them!

So nobody needs to feel they must sign up for every single class they want in January or they'll never have a chance to take it again. :hook

I'll probably even start a thread once registration is closed so the people who didn't take a class they wanted for whatever reason (class closed too fast, were already taking too many others, whatever) can post and let us know which classes they would like to see offered again later in the year.

That will help us create our schedule for later in 2009.
