Everyonce in a while I get an inspiration that would work up best in yarn. So I dusted off my larger hooks for this creation. I wanted a caplet that would stay up on my shoulders and keep me warm while I sit and crochet, but one that gives me lots of freedom of arm movement. Not to mention something that looks nice too.
This is what I came up with. I used caron one pounders except for the burgandy, I did it with my G/ 4.0mm hook. It measures 20 inches from the neck down to the tip of the points.
I also wasn't sure whether to add the tassels or not so I took pictures before I added them and after. Would love to hear which way you like it best.
So without further a do here is my caplet.
Without tassels

With tassels

So what do you think of my dabbling in yarn?
I did put tassels on her's, but added a note that is she desired she could remove them. Just figured it she did desire them it would be best to include them in the correct yarn.
Here is the one of my daughter

Here is mine from up above. I have been using it in the evenings while I crochet and really like it.

I like the capelet a lot. It's cute and functional. I like it best without the tassels, but I like both versions.

I really like the pattern. I definately like it better without the tassels. If your using it while crocheting won't the tassels get in the way?

I think your design is beautiful! As for the tassel issue, I actually love it with the tassels. Either way though it's a winner. :D

That is very, very pretty, Kathy! I think I prefer it without the tassels, it's less "fussy" that way. Very nice!!

Oh my, that's beautiful! And just the thing to keep your shoulders warm when a sweater is 'too much'. I vote no tassles also, for looks as well as functionality. :clap

Kathy--what an unusual design! I like the way the tassels *look*--they soften the rather sharp points, I think. But for functionality, I think they'd be in the way, so if I were making a capelet like this, I wouldn't put them on.

Hope I'm not being offensive to say that, with a little adaptation, it looks like it could be made up as a pretty tree skirt, too.

I just love this! It is lovely and kind of old fashioned! But I love old-fashioned! It reminds me of the books I've been reading set in 17th century England. I love it with the tassels

I like the tassels, I think you should write it up with the tassels as an add on if someone wants the tassels. That way you can make it with or without.

I think you should dabble more often! I can think of many design elements in your doilies that I would like to see in shawls...

Thank you everyone for your nice comments. It was a fun piece to make once I go used to working with yarn again. Always takes me a bit when I change back and forth.

No it doesn't bother me in the least. DH made the same comment when I had it laid out on the floor checking my progress and testing out design elements.

I love it! I don't care for tassles, so having the option to leave them off would be my choice.

Oh Kathy, It's stunning. See everytime I think you can't come up with anything more to make me go WOW you Do. :hug Obviously your talent extends way beyond thread and your dabbling in yarn is equal to your "dabbling" in thread! :)

I Love the design, I usually do not like shawls, capelets, etc. with holes in them because I don't think they would be very warm however, your design not only looks like it would be very warm but is very pretty also. The addition of the center section is just fantastic.

My personal preference would be no tassles, IMHO they would end up getting tangly and I know my Golden Retrievers would love them :lol.

Definately a Keeper as usual,

Your caplet is absolutely beautiful! I love your designs even though I don't do too much thread crochet myself- I find it too time consuming. As for the tassells ; I'd leave it up to the individuals choice, but I would make them shorter

I finished the Wintersdream caplet for my daughters Christmas present. I really like the color scheme I used for her's, Thought I would share a picture of it with all of you. I also got a overhead shot of mine.

I did put tassels on her's, but added a note that is she desired she could remove them. Just figured it she did desire them it would be best to include them in the correct yarn.

Very nice. Regarding the tassels, I would think for practicality I'd leave them off. But for an old-fashioned Vintage look.. they are the cats meow!! :)

If I was writing the pattern, I'd include the tassels as an optional step.

Kathy,
It is stunning as all your work is. The overhead shot of yours instantly brought to mind a suggestion. With some color changes and possibly a tiny bit of modification you would have an absolutely phenomenal tree skirt.

I love both of them and am looking forward to the patterns becoming available.

Kathy...if you are taking names for people who want to buy the pattern... add mine to it. I have been looking for a pattern for a cape for a friend who is a docent for the local historical society and this would be perfect.

You are an amzing talent.

Kathy after testing it for you, and knowing how the finished product lays and looks in person, I have to say I like it without the tassles. Although, my husband thinks I should add the tassles. ;) so it's all opion of the person recieving it, I would think.

Oh, Kathy! :yay Once more, I'm overwhelmed by your talent! Only now, you've added to a big problem I have. So many of your projects are so beautiful that when I decide to order a pattern from you, I can't decide which one to get. I do have a suggestio about the tassles, but I don't know if it's possible. Sometimes I'm in a tassely mood and sometimes I'm not. I'd love tassels that you could take on and off. Anyway, add me to the list of people who will buy your pattern when it's available. It's so exciting to know someone with such talent. :clap

Gorgeous vintage look. It's rich enough in color and texture that the tassels are almost too much, but that's just me.

I really like this, I always prefer capes/ponchos that are shaped a bit. It seems to allow easier arm movement. My preference would be for without tassels because I'm clumsy and they would get in my way! I love the idea of removable tassels though.
