Does anyone have suggestions for an afghan using just varigated yarn?

My very first crochetted item was an afghan using a variegated yarn. All I did was a DC throughout. Personally, I feel that with a pretty variegated yarn, a simple stitch really brings out the colors.

My very first afghan was also done in all variegated yarn. Just SC back and forth. Boring to do but I still have that afghan so I guess I did a good enough job.

I make verigated 8 inch granny squares and trim them in white or black and they turn out beautiful. My favorite is the one trimmed in white the colors really stand out:hook

I've found that the seed stitch works well with varigated yarn. You end up with little squares of color...

The brain dead afghan is great with verigated yarn. Its also ridiculously quick and easy to stitch. You can find it on crochetpatterncentral.com

I just made one using moss stitich throughout and then trimmed it with one of the colors pulled from the varigated yarn. It turned out really warm and cozy and I thought it went pretty fast.

I'm working on a king-sized afghan that is simply RHSS in Aspen Print. I'm doing it triple-strand, sc in blo. It's plain, simple, exactly how my DH wants it. Yes it's rather boring but it's turning out well.

I prefer to do motifs when using a verigated yarn so that the colors don't end up in little patches that change pattern every time you switch skeins...

The dishcloth afghan is a nice pattern for varigated yarns. It's worked on the diagonal.

I made a scarf using the solid shell stitch: http://crochet.about.com/library/nsolidshell.htm and it looked rather neat with variegated yarn . . . different shells came out as different colors.

To me, varigated looks better when paired with a complementary solid.
Also, whenever possible, I try to match up the color sequences when changing skeins to minimize the pattern disruption. I may lose a little yarn, but makes it harder to figure out where I changed the skein!
