I am seeking a pattern for an afghan featuring the USAF logo. If anyone has seen any such pattern, please send me an IM. Thanks!
My son just finished Basic Training, and is possibly going to Germany for four years. I would like to send a warm afghan with him.
If I can't manage the logo, I may just make one with the Air Force colors -- dark blue and silver/gray.
Thanks again!

Hi-
I have 1 son in the Marines & 1 in the Navy. I have done the same as you are--made them each an afghan after graduating boot camp.....not the symbol but using granny squares made a american flag--within the flag is a yellow ribbon.....they LOVE them and each are deployed and although they aren't allowed much in way of "private" belongings they each have their "blankies" with them and on their bunks. I have been told so help the person who touches either one --ha....I will glad to share my pattern with you..from one military mom to another:cheer

:manyheart My daughter made her husband who is in the Army and in Iraq on his second depolyment an American Flag Afghan. She didn't know it, but I made her an American Flag Afghan the same time she was making his. The one she made for her husband looks like an actual flag. The one I made for her and the grandkids is multi- American Flag 'Squares' done graph style in one piece with 'folk art' style stars in the blue part of the flag.
She and the kids love it. :hug Afterall, they are part of the Army too! :yes

My neighbor made an Air Force one for her son who just joined in July. It turned out fantastic!

Thank you all so much for your help.
I found a great pattern. Now I just have to get busy. I have until early May to finish it before he finishes Tech School.
Wish me luck!!!

Cant wait to see pictures! My son just deployed to Iraq, and I am making him an Army logo graph afghan while he is gone. Ive never worked on graph afghans before so this is a real challenge for me. (all those bobbins/bags hanging!) LOL

What kind of yarn are you using? I am trying to decide whether to go with ww or wool ease.

I am using "I love this yarn" WW. Because it's so soft.
But any WW would work great Im sure. Wool Ease would be good too, its thinner though so would make smaller afghan that's all.
I am half way through my army afghan, and got his 82nd Airborne graph , so that will be next.

Thanks quiet heart. I also thought of Caron Simply Soft, but thought it might be too lightweight. He is either going to Germany or Arizona. Sure wish I knew! I guess the nights will be cold both places.
The ILTY IS easy to find. Maybe that's what I'll use.

One important thing to remember here ladies is that the laundry is TOUGH on ghans. You might be better off going with RedHeart just for the simple reason that it wears like iron and can stand up to commercial laundering.
Another thought for those who are making ghans for those in combat zones is to make it out of actual wool. If God forbid, something should happen - acrylic yarn is plastic and will melt and can cause a lot of damage. That's why they insist on wool for the hats and scarves.
I think anything from home that shows your support is a treasure that will be loved forever. It's like being wrapped in love.

Simply soft is very thin, if you use it just double it up! :)

Well, I decided on worsted weight. I bought two pounds of the Caron yarn, and I have red heart for the rest. Since he is not likely to be in a combat zone, and will probably be washing it alot, I decided not to use the wool.
