A small gift...

I have a very good friend who I need to send a thank you gift to. Well, I don't need to, but I want to. Anyway, she's a very mod, hip, crafty, wonderful sort. I want to make her something to let her know how much I appreciate all she does.

But I don't know what. She lives in California, so I'm not sure about a shawl, plus I've never made one before... but perhaps.

Does anyone have any good ideas? Thanks!

California can get chilly in the mornings and night..at least where we are. So a shawl might be a great idea :) Also, the last Easy Knitting magazine had some cute crocheted cover ups! Of course you can always make a hat or purse.
