View Full Version : Pretty As A Rose Dog Sweater

Hi All,
I am soooo excited to finally have this done and the pictures taken. Why? Well, this is the first dog sweater I've ever designed(Actually, this is the first garment I've ever designed at ever- human or animal) and it turned out really cute.

It took me approx. 6-8 hours to make and that's with a little bit of tearing out and LOTS of fitting. I used caron pounder in Rose (love it) and red heart black. Only used about half of the pounder. I think I could easily get another 3 hats or so out of it (made one hat for me after the sweater was done so me and Heidi could match).

Anywho, Heidi (my amazing dog) is medium sized and it fits her perfect. In the past I swore I would NEVER make a doggie sweater but when I saw my Yodi (her nickname)freezing in the snow and below zero temperatures I just couldn't resist. I'm happy to saw that she loves it too and she was sooooo patient when I tried it on her to make sure it fit right (about 15 times I wouldn't doubt).

Thanks for looking!!

Julee

Wow! That really is the prettiest and best-fitting dog sweater I've seen. Would you share the pattern, or do you need a tester for it? I have five dogs, and would love to test it for you. If so, contact me via my email address or via personal message. Great job!

Thanks Sheila!! I really had fun on this one. I literally thought "dog sweater" non stop the whole entire time I worked on this. Good thing I can pretty much see something in my head and make it without a problem (most of the time).

Julee, the dog sweater is just what I've been looking for! My blue Dobie has a very thin coat, especially on her tummy and the sweater you designed addresses that.

If you decide to publish or sell the pattern, please let us know where it would be available.

Best looking dog sweater I've seen yet!

I have a Maltese. Not sure if you would consider that small or medium but I bet with a couple of testers we could get the pattern figured out for a few different sizes.

I really do love this sweater and stand by my first statement that you need to submit this somewhere.

Where would one submit a dog sweater pattern like the one I made? I have no experience in submitting designs or anything like that so I'd be kinda (really) lost.

ANY advice from anyone on submitting patterns would be awesome (I know there's a course on it in January but I really can't afford it right now or I would go for it. That would be some awesome stuff to learn).

Thanks

There are so many patterns out there for little dogs but very, very few for medium and large dogs.

I'm eagerly looking forward to the day the pattern is available somewhere!

This is really the prettiest, nicest dog sweater I've ever seen. (Your model is pretty cute, too! :hug)
Most of the patterns I've seen only cover the back of the dog and have straps that go over the stomach, but their stomach gets cold, too, :wbrrso yours is perfect.
I'd really like to purchase this pattern when you offer it for sale. My dog is a German Shorthair Pointer, about 50 lbs.
I just can not get over how nice it is, and how nicely you photographed it.
Great job, Julee and Merry Christmas! :sheepxmas

WOW!! I am sorta out of words to describe how awesome this sweater is! It would be perfect for my pittbull,Cocoa, who by the way loves to run and act crazy in the snow, but freezes her hiney off since she has a thin short coat. She is a medium size at 10 months now and the sweater my DH bought at Wally just drooped on her. Seeing your pictures she is the same size as Heidi so this design would be perfect!! I have never attempted to make a sweater before, but am looking forward to getting my hands on your pattern in the future. We have a rottweiler, PrettyGirl, who never seems to mind the South Dakota winter cold. Couldn't talk my DH into not adopting Cocoa though since she looked so pitiful and meek at our local pound. She has been the light in my DD eyes since we brought her home and the royal pain in my hiney with her chewing habit! LOL:lol
I truely believe pits were not meant to live in this South Dakota climate, but maybe she will adapt with a warm correct fitting sweater?
Alas, you have many KUDOS from me on this design!:clap

Very nice, and what an adorable, huggable doggie! She's precious!
You might look in the front of your favorite Crochet mag, and get the address of where to submit photos. Or e-mail a photo to Leisure Arts and see if they're interested. I got two doggie books published by LA that way. :D

Thank you!! She's actually growing a little so it's fitting her even better now (and I thought she was done growing).

Thanks!! :blush Heidi is amazing!! She's my little angel (when she's not being a brat :D). Life would be incredibly boring with out her. She also makes a great model and she was amazing when I was fitting the sweater to her. She just stood there and takes it like a buddy.

Hmm, I think that if I ever get the pattern written up I'll probably get just the single pattern published. This dog sweater is the only dog sweater I've really ever designed and I don't think I could come up with another one.

Thanks everybody!!

Oh, one more thing!! I'm gonna need tons of encouragement to get this pattern written up so if someone could pop me a pm once in a while with a little nudge or boot in the behind that would be really nice. Everyonce in a while I need that.

Thanks

You know I always swore, I would never put my poor dog through wearing a sweater or tshirt. Then got this short haired rat terrier. CyndiLoo. The light of my life besides my husband and kids. I was watching her shiver outside one day doing her duty and thought or poor baby, here I am all bundled up. So out we went to get her several sweaters and a couple of t-shirts. The little stinker brings her sweater to me when she wants to go outside and its cold out. Use to be, she brought me her leash. Your sweater just came out awsome. I may just have to try and make one for this coming winter. Heidi makes the PERFECT model. So proud of her sweater.

Hi,
That's basically the same reason why I made Heidi's Sweater. She has shorter hair and she used to get pretty cold outside. She's actually grown a little now though and has a little more blubber so she doesn't get as cold as she used to.

Thanks
