Lion brand has an Elegent Comfort Shawl (it's more like a stole, if that's the style you're looking for).

Looks easy enough in hdc. If you want to use different yarn you could.
You may want to search under "shawl" or even "wrap". Most people haven't put the differences between Stole, Shawl, Wrap.
Let us know more of what you're looking for. Is it a retangle sytle? or a Traingle style you're looking for?

Are you looking for something light and lacy or warm and cozy. There are quite a few different patterns on the 'Are you cold, then you need a shawl CAL'

One of the easiest wrap patterns I've found is the simply shawl (http://www.caron.com/projects/ss/simply_shawl.html) pattern from Caron. I've made it a few times with different yarn types. It works up pretty quickly & is nice no matter what type of yarn I've used. It can be dressed up or down pretty easily too.

What I am looking for is a rectangle, the caron one is a bit too lacey, something simple that can be worn everyday.

How about Dot's zig zag stole (http://patternsbydot.blogspot.com/2006/01/zig-zag-shells-stole.html). It's a rectangle wrap. It says it's easy and looks like it could be worn casually or dressed up a bit. I haven't made it but I keep looking at it....

LOL! I am exactly the same! I have bookmarked and just gaze at it sometimes - the trouble is I don't know it I am a stole type of person - I have never worn one before and I think they might be quite annoying if they kept falling off all the time, but this one looked like it could be tied so maybe...

How about just a simple Double Crochet? Just chain the width you want the stole to be, then work dc until you get it the length you want. Simple and easy.

How about a pin to keep it from falling off? Maybe crochet one? Or add a button, I did that with a cape so it wouldn't fall off, then I could wear it while I crochet or whatever and keep my shoulders and arms warm.
I've worn them a few times and they don't seem to fall off. I actaully like the triangle type shawls better, but I have a one or two stoles.
