Can someone please help me identify the gray hook and the blue hook size?
The picture shows a "N" hook on the left, and a gray hook that I have no idea what size it is. The Red hook is an "S" hook but what size is the blue hook?
So that is the question. I need to know the size of the gray and the blue hook. I'm trying to figure out if one of these two hooks is a "P" size hook.
I kind of think that the blue and the red are both "S" hooks but as the blue one doesn't state it, I have no idea.
ALSO can someone tell me how many pieces of yarn do I have to hold together as a minimum to use an "S" hook. Is it 3? 2?

my guess would be the gray is a P and the blue is a Q at least that is what mine are that are that color
I would use at lease 3 strands together with the S hook Hope that helps

I was hoping someone had either of the hooks still in the package or had saved the package so they can tell me for sure what size they are.
I think you are right about the gray hook but still think I'm guessing. I want to write it on the hooks some way that it stays on there so I don't have to wonder in the future.
My husband thinks the red and blue are both "S" hooks bought from two different stores.

I would say the blue hook is a Q . I haven't heard of the S hook, so I will have to look for one of those....just cause I don't have one :P.

measure them and see what the size is in mm. then look on a chart to see what the letter size is.
If you don't know where to take the measurement, then measure a crochet hook that has the size on it to see where you need to get the actual measurement. Then measure the one that doesn't have the size on it in the same location.

I am pretty sure the blue is a Q I wrote on the bottom of mine but it isn' clear anymore and the gray is a P.
I have yet to find an S the only place close to buy yarn and hooks around here right now is WalMart but we are getting a Ben Franklin's craft store soon :cheer , and I can't wait, all others stores are 2 hrs away. :(

The only blue ones I have seen like that are the boye 15mm Q. (http://www.kelsea.ca/boyePQ.jpg) Is the hook about 8 inches long? Mines is and it came in the package like that but it's not labled on the plastic but I know it's Q because the only blue ones that big I have seen are the 15mm Q. Your grey one looks skinny like my boye L 11 8mm. My P is pink and here it is beside my L. See how much fatter the P is compared to the L? I would say if you grey one is skinny then it's an L and if it's fat like my pink one it's a P. Mine is pink because it came with a breast cancer scarf kit.
I have used the S with homespun using 2 strands together for blankets (http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/60544AD.html)but have not used it with WW so maybe 3 with that yarn, have no clue. My S is white from Susan Bates and I think your red one is the lion brand speed hook S, same thing I think. Mary!

I have the grey hook - I used a sharpie to mark it right out of the package as a "P" hook.
The blue one looks a duplicate of the "Q" hook I have. The sharpie wouldn't draw on that one, so I scratched a rough Q on the very bottom of it.
For my "Q" hook, 2 strands is thin and 4 strands of WW yarn is almost too much. For an "S" hook I think it would depend on how lacy you want it too look, with 2 strands you'd get a light looking fabric.

What I did for my Q was to take a blank sticky address label I use for making my labels and printed Q 15mm on it using MS word and wrapped it around the end and so far it has held. Had to do that with my white 16mm Q also since they didn't label it. Mary
