Hello, Ladies.

My niece has asked if I can find a pattern to make headbands like the ones in the photo at the following URL.

http://www.custombraceletsandhairbows.citymax.com/catalog/item/4886669/4920879.htm

I have searched and found none for this type. It looks to me that it may be made out of ribbon. Has anyone ever done one of these? Have you ever crocheted with narrow ribbon and if so, is this how it turns out?

Yours truly,
Jean

Appears to be a version of the granny square stitch. Ribbon can be a pain to crochet with but well worth the effort!

I have some headbands that look exactly like those and I thought they were crocheted (and also wanted to make them) but they're not, the twisted ribbon is glued onto a thin elastic and the whole thing appears to be woven together.

it looks more like a sc, ch1 which makes a real stretchy fabric. i don't know what type of ribbon she's using tho.

just make a ch big enough to go around her head and do enough rows of sc,ch1 to make it as thick as you want it.

Dear Rosered, Yarnluver and Ker828,
Thank-you very much for taking the time to help me, a stranger. I appreciate it very much. You have each given me ideas to pursue. Next step, I will go to Hobby Lobby and see if they sell ribbon of a type that they use for this sort of thing. :)
Sincerely,
Jean

I agree with Yarnluver, that those are not actually crocheted even though labeled as crochet. I'm sure you can use ribbon to crochet :hook something that will look great, it just will not look exactly like that headband.

From looking at the site I think these are custom made - not store bought. I could be wrong.

I have seen these as well, they are sold in stores, and are not crochet. My friend uses them to hold barrets for babies...the ribbon used is VERY stretchy as it can fit from a baby to an adult.

I wonder if it's an elastic style ribbon or stretchy type ribbon? Simply because the discription says it can fit a baby head or an adult head. Usually ribbon doesn't stretch that much.

On the info page it says they use the highest quality ribbon available and it also says all items are custom made. There are some nice other ones that say crochet style too, but not actuactly saying how they do it.

you know Michael's used to carry the Italian ribbon type fiber/yarn I have a scarf made from it, you can find it in different widths, you might be able to look for some of that and make one with it. Good luck!
