Kim,
I see that you will be teaching a couple of classes this March. I love the broomstick lace but have not had the chance to sit down and learn the technique. Will this class teach the beginner as well?
Oh btb, Up here in NY/NJ the kids have a game called stickball, like baseball but they use a broomstick as the bat. I found one of these broomstick bats at the dollar store and am having my husband cut it in half for a 18" length... Just a suggestion for others looking for a broomstick pin in size 50.

This is a beginner class. You don't need any experience at all with broomstick lace. :cheer

I am so excited to be taking this class! I was wondering how many ounces should each skein be? Is it easier to do in a solid or in a multicolor yarn? Can you see the pretty stitches with a busy colored yarn? Thanks!

The skeins I use in Simply Soft are 6 oz, about 315 yards each. And, I can't say that I've ever worked on a broomstick project using a multicolor yarn. It would definitely be something that could be tried. With complicated stitch patterns, I prefer a solid. But, this isn't a complicated stitch pattern. I can easily envision something like a sock yarn with the long color changes in a scarf using this technique. However, with sock yarn, I would probably use about a size 19 knitting needle for the broomstick pin. Only experimenting will tell whether you like the technique with a multicolor. :manyheart

Wonderful! I find eBay a terrific resource to find just about anything I could ever want. If there is something I want, no matter how obscure, I can surely find it on eBay. :yay

What about Paton's Lacette yarn for a shawl, or maybe a scarf? I have about 4 skeins of it.

I love Ebay most of the time :) Yesterday was a bad Ebay day... I was watching a K Swivel Hook. The price was at $4.95 and 2 hours later it ended for $28.00.

I love Patons Lacette. I think it may work for this project, but given its size, I think I would use a size 35 knitting needle instead of the size 50.

Ok, it's March 20th, I'm excited to get started. I bought size 50 knitting needles since I couldn't find the broomstick pin. I know nothing about broomstick lace but I'm ready to learn!
