We've had many requests for the ability to sort new posts by forum. What a great suggestion! :yes

Sorting new posts by forum can help you find the new posts you're really interested in reading or just help keep you organized as you catch up since your last visit to Crochetville.

In the navigation bar at the top of the forum, instead of the New Posts link, we now have a drop-down menu with two choices: Sort by Time or Sort by Forum. Sort by Time is the old default way.

We hope you enjoy this new feature! Thank you for suggesting it!

------------------------------

Edited to add:
You can now choose how your New Posts link displays. If you do nothing, you will get the new default drop-down menu with two links, Sort by Time and Sort by Forum. Your options for displaying the New Posts link are:

Drop-down menu with both choices
Plain link (no drop-down) that sorts by time
Plain link (no drop-down) that sorts by forum

Go to your User CP (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/usercp.php) (the User CP link is in the upper left-hand corner of the forum navigation bar). Scroll down until you see the heading Settings & Options in the left-hand menu. Under that, click on Edit Options. Scroll all the way down to Miscellaneous Options. Click the raido button next to the option of your choice (Drop-down menu with both choices, Sort by time, or Sort by forum). Click the Save Changes button. Done. You can change this setting again at any time if you like.

Although how do you get to the different forums it is only bringing up introduce yourself? The forums are sorted by the order they are displayed on the Crochetville home page, so Introduce Yourself will be first, then Crochetville Forum Guidelines/Rules, and so on. Sorry, I was incorrect, they're sorted by forum ID number, which would be the order in which the forums were created here at Crochetville (which doesn't put them in a meaningful order). I'll have to see if there's some way I can code a better sort order. :think (Of course, only forums with new posts will be displayed.) Depending on how many new posts you have to view, the New Posts link may show multiple pages (it has always been this way). Use the page numbers or the Next > link to navigate to the next page, the same way you navigate pages of a thread.

Will take some getting used to. Now it takes 2 clicks instead of one to get to the same place for me.

Will take some getting used to. Now it takes 2 clicks instead of one to get to the same place for me.I had thought of that. I am willing to continue researching ways we can make this convenient for everyone, if possible. So will you continue to use the old way, sorted by time?

If I want to go to a practicular forum it is still faster to use the search forum feature at the bottom of the page to get to that practicular forum if I want to check out. I like seeing what everyone on is up to most of the time so I like the whats new by time.

This is great, thanks so much for adding this feature! It makes it so much easier to see only the new posts that I'm most interested in!

I'm with Kathy, preferring the sort by time feature. I did try out the forum sorting, but it seems unwieldy to me.

I really like having the option to search by time or forum, whichever options best meets by needs at that particular moment.

Yes, having that extra click to select the option is a little extra work, but it really only takes a second or less to accomplish! I know---I timed how long it took me! :lol Yeah, sometimes I'm crazy like that! Numbers fascinate me at times, especially when I'm trying hard to avoid putting away clean laundry and dishes!

I'll give up that second of time for the extra flexbility I'm getting!

Hmmm, I wonder how many partial calories that extra click burns up? Think I can lose weight if I click on New Posts often enough during the day? :P

This is great! Thanks so much! I like the option of being able to search both ways.

I think it's a great idea! I don't typically check all the new posts but when I do, I might be more prone to check into them by forum! Thanks for the new option.

ROFL I clicked on new posts 4 times today and could not figure out why it "Wasnt working"... When I finally "paid attention" I saw it was bringing up a drop down menu *giggle*
I still do by time, too. But by forum lets me zoom by the posts I want to as they are grouped together when im in a rush.

Thank you all for your feedback! :clap

As a direct result of your feedback, you can now choose how your New Posts link is displayed in the navigation bar.

If you do nothing, you'll continue to get the new drop-down menu with two choices (sort by time and sort by forum). If you follow these instructions, you can go back to the old way: a plain link (no drop-down) that sorts by time. You can also choose a plain link (no drop-down) that sorts by forum. You can change this setting at any time in your User CP.

I am also adding this information to the first post in this thread and the Crochetville FAQ (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=8) forum.

I'll have to see if there's some way I can code a better sort order. :think I have been working hard on this and have not been able to find a solution to coding a better sort option (either in the order they are displayed on the home page or alphabetically). For now we will have to live with the current sort order. I am not giving up, but I have exhausted most possibilites for the moment.

Thank you Donna for giving us the option to do it way we are most comfortable with.:hug

I really like not having to have the drop down menu just to update the forums. I click on it numerous times a day when I am sitting and crocheting, as Crochetville is how I make myself take breaks from my work so I don't over do at any one time.
I will continue to do it by time as that way I see what everyone is up to and only the most current are at the top so it is quicker to see what is going on then skimming to the varoius forums.

So Thank you once again for making all these options available to us. Since we are site with so many unique individuals this should make us all happy.

You're welcome, Kathy! :hug Thank you for making the suggestion!

I'm glad that in this case I was able to come up with a solution that works for everybody.
