I would like to see an easier way to search for a member than going page by page looking for their name maybe like a search box type thing

I don't know if this is what you mean, but there is a way to search by member name. Just go to the Community drop down menu in the navigation bar, then when the members list pops up, look down below the list of alphabet letters.
You'll see a dark blue heading bar that says Crochetville Forum: Members List. At the right end of that bar is a pull-down menu called Search Members. If you know part of the member's name, you can enter it in the box. If you select Advanced Search, you can search by all sorts of other options that people may have filled out in their user profile: home page, real name, locations, occupation, AIM screen name, Yahoo messenger name, etc.
Is that what you wanted? Or did you want another way to search?

Well, I think sometimes we just get so used to seeing things that we don't really notice what's there, if you know what I mean! :)

Well, play with that option, and if it's NOT what you want, come back and let us know what you do want.

I would like a way to search other members by state- I live in NJ and would love to know who else is in NJ and might be interested in meeting up to form a crochet group.

You can already do this. Just use the Advanced Member Search feature. There is a box where you can enter location. You can enter the state name or abbreviation.
Of course, the forum software can only return data based on whether the state name or abbreviation is found in someone's profile. This field is optional, and some people may prefer to keep that information private.
But you can at least find the information for those who have chosen to make that information public. :)

Not understanding how to search by state. Where do we look initally and proceed to advanced search?
