csabers requested photos of the skirt worn the other ways, so those have been added

A while back there was a thread about this pattern: http://www.fibertrends.com/viewer/V1_new.html
Of course, I had to have it, so I got it. Well, I recently made it and once again I'm frustrated with patterns. I very rarely check my gauge cause it's never a problem, but after doing the first few rounds, the skirt was enormous. I checked my gauge and was off, so I frogged it. I went down a hook size, checked my gauge again and now it was perfect. However, the skirt is still way big. I made it following the size small instructions and I'm by no means as thin as the girls in the photo. It's way to flouncy for my taste, but it's a cute pattern. Here's mine.

I remember this one - can be a poncho and halter/tube top, too?

Model it those ways for us, too, please! ;)

I read Natalie did one too and it was way to big for her also. It's very cute, stinks when that happens with a pattern!

I love this pattern - though I haven't purchased it myself. I do understand your frustration with guage - I just finished a halter top that had the same problem. BUt I didn't frog it just yest - I will pick it back up in the dead of winter (next winter and use a different yarn) and see what happens.

Great job on the skirt!

You did a marverlous job. Looks great on you.:clap :clap :clap I wish I could wear something like that, but I hate it when people point and laugh. Really you did a very nice job, even with all your fustrations. Guage can be so tricky.

I used Lily Sugar n Creme. i wanted to use the Brown sheep cotton fleece that was used in the pattern but couldn't find it. I just happened to have this yarn available. It worked fine, although the colors are pretty babyish. Can't wait to see yours.

Oh, I didn't even think of that. Not even sure if I tried it on those ways, because I probably would never wear it that way. But I'll take photos tomorrow.

I think you did an awesome job on it! I have that pattern but haven't attempted it yet. Still trying to finish up some other things first. My dd wants that skirt bad. I'll keep your post in mind when I begin tho.

Oh, how cute! Wish I could find the pattern around here, but it's not too likely. The one LYS I did find was about the size of a closet & didn't have any crochet patterns. :( Heh, if anyone decides to sell their copy, let me know, OK? ;)

Well, thanks so much. They're mine. And I'm no youngster, so I really appreciate it. The way the skirt sits on the hips is very flattering.

Eeek!! Was it ever! turned out to be about a 5XL - seriously. Gauge and I don't get along so usually I don't bother. Now that I've learned my mistakes with the first one, the second is going much smoother. Glad to know I'm not the only one who had issues.

Yours turned out so cute, I can't wait to finish mine!!

For those who are interested, the pattern can be purchased here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8190307017&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT). It's the cheapest I've found it online.

I just finished mine and I don't like the way it looks :think . My gauge is right but I think that it is the WW yarn. I'm a 14/16 so maybe next time (which will be real soon :)) I will use a sport weight or lighter. I think that yours looks so cute, great colors for summer. :clap great job.

Do you think it's too thick, zeropixie??

I'm the same size as you, and I was feeling like a) it would be too warm for summer and b) it's heavy and might sag. I'm doing mine in Cotton-Ease, and it's still seems weighty.

I purchased the pattern last week, but have yet to start on it! I'm glad you mentioned about the gauge because I rarely check mine either. I'll be sure to do it with this pattern. I think yours turned out great !!!!!!

I've got this pattern, too, and I plan to make it in the next month, so it's great to hear all the hints about working with it.

I used Red Heart which I think is a little bit heavier than other brands. Cotton Ease might be better, shaping it will probably be a whole lot easier too.

It looks really cute, especially as a tube top. I usually hate those kind of tops because I don't want anyone to think I'm pregnant, but now I want to try to make one! Do you think it would be pretty easy to add straps of some sort so it could be worn with a bra?

They probably went off with mine somewhere! :rofl:rofl:rofl

Anyway, back to the topic - that skirt is absolutely adorable, Eileen - so glad you persevered past your frustrations, you did a marvelous job! I think it has just the right amount of flounce, but of course, that's just my taste. I was never one much for those "pencil" skirts anyway, even when I could pull 'em off. You must work out too, to have such a nice firm tummy. I'm green with jealousy! Of course, not enough to go do the kind of working out that's required to look like that (if it would even do any good anymore!), I'm too lazy, would rather spend what little free time I have crocheting and browsing on Crochetville! :hook:devil

The only problem with that would be that there is a drawstring. Maybe if you used elastic instead of having a drawstring.

You're really going to hate me, but I don't work out. Honestly, that picture is way flattering. As is the skirt. I've really been thinking lately, girl, not a good time in life to not be exercising. I've run 4 marathons, but now I do nothing, but crochet. It's pathetic. Don't even know where to begin. But thanks so much for the compliments. Oh, and another thing. I've never had kids. That makes a really big difference.
