I am looking for two different patterns. The first one I need is generic. I have to make a large prayer shawl/ small afghan for my pastor in the next three weeks. I need a MANLY pattern that will work up quickly but still be warm and comforting and big enough for a large man. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
The second pattern I am looking for is specific. I inherited a lot of yarn and patterns that belonged to my grandmother after the death of my father. There is a leaflet in the mix that is a fisherman's afghan by Herrschners. I would give you the number but right this minute I have misplaced the leaflet. (Been busy watching my one year old nephew for two weeks since his mother had a new baby by C-section. Haven't looked after a one year old in 11 years...lol) The pattern looks like it has about 4 rows of a double crochet stitch followed by what seems to be about 3 or 4 rows of an open maybe flowery (not sure) stitch and then the pattern repeats. The picture is really faded and the pattern itself is faded beyond reading. As soon as I find the leaflet again I will post the number, but if anybody here knows what I am talking about and can help me find it I would be forever grateful. I have looked through the Hershnerrs website until I am crosseyed. I would guess the pattern is from either the 1970's or 1980 from the age of the paper. Not sure on that either though.
Thank you for your help

Once you find the pattern number, check ebay and see if someone has the pattern for sale.

This pattern is from Herrschner's "Fisherman Afghan #3079" #99-6400-198.

Can't help you find your pattern but for a manly lapghan I used the Thyme Twist Throw pattern from the Bernat site. Its a basic basket weave. I couldn't find the right yarn at the time so I used Jiffy. It was really sturdy and warm.

Okay tore my house apart but finally found where I misplaced that pattern at. It is Herrschners Fisherman Ripple Afghan # 5306 and there is a stamp on the front that says 20 5306. The picture is in pretty decent shape in spots. The afghan looks like it has has five either single or half double crochet ripple rows to start, then only 4 ripple rows the rest of the way, but in between the ripple rows it looks like 3 rows or very open V stitch.. but not real sure of that either. I can't make out what hook to use and about how much yarn or even what weight yarn. And I have exhausted the Herschnerrs website.. When I put in the 5306 it just keeps coming back with the statement that I need to put in a different number. I have searched online and the only reference I find to it is on http://www.hassdesigns.com web forum but only someone asking if anyone has it. No replies if they do and my web browser won't let me join due to anti spam or some such mess. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated.
Also in the tearing apart of my house I found two other things that I would like to find. I found a page out a workbasket magazine. It is page 16 and it has a picture of a crocheted mint green hooded scarf that is continued on page 20. But I don't seem to have that particular workbasket magazine in my collection. On the back of the page is something about painting. Would anyone know where I could find this? And I found a copy (lookslike it was mimeographed by my grandfather since that is what he did or possibly by my grandmother at the library) of a Herrschners pattern for a "Hospitality" Afghan, but no picture. Would anybody no where I could look to find something like this so I could get an idea of what it would look like. There is no pattern number on it. Just the Herrschners name and address and the title and the pattern instructions.
Thank you guys for putting up with me. It is greatly appreciated

My suggestion for a prayer shawl is take an afghan pattern that YOU like and are familar with the side especially the width. Make it to the length you think you want. I have done this many times for prayer shawls. To me, a prayer shawl can be any pattern you want it to me after you decide the size you want.

Well.. I was inspired by a scarf pattern I found and I decided to play with the pattern and purely by accident discovered a design that I consider rather manly. When I am done with it I will post the pictures here so you can see. Thanks for all your help. Still seeking the other patterns though
