My Project Linus chapter will be having its Make A Blanket Day this Saturday, March 7. Last year, over 400 brand new, hand made blankets were crocheted, knitted or quilted that were either made on MABD or were made from kits signed out on MABD or were dropped off that day. Amazing! :hook I'm sure the turnout will be just as great this year, as we have a very large and very active chapter.
My personal PL goal has been to never repeat a pattern. I've only repeated 2 patterns, I think. This month I'll be dropping off the train afghan and shamrock square afghan I crocheted in February. Then it will be time to think of spring patterns and colors to tackle. While I've only donated about 3 dozen blankets (I usually make large, teen-sized blankets), my mother (my fellow blanketeer) is approaching her 300th! That's some love going out to those kids!

Our local children's hospital has a charity they call the Butterfly Cabinet. Terminally ill children in the oncology floor pick out blankets to keep while waiting for the end. The parents then keep the blanket as a reminder of their loved one. It's very sad, but I've crocheted three blankets this year and find it rewarding to think they might give some comfort in a terrible situation.

Three weeks ago, a young woman spoke at my church, about her upcoming missionary service to Ethiopia. She will be serving as a nurse midwife, and I had just that morning been wondering what to do with my hats for Knit One Save One that I hadn't had the money to mail...SOoooo, I offered her those hats I have already made and will be making more for her to take with her when she leaves in August.

I crochet for the Tulsa's Children's Hospital. I make a lot of baby hats, blankets and have made some toys and some pillows for the children. They are a wonderful Hospital, my daughter spent time in the PICU there and they were wonderful:manyheart. Here are some pictures of some of the things I made and sent to them.

Our church is having a baby shower for an organization that helps unwed mothers keep their babies.
So I have made three afghans, a sweater set, a couple of snuggly buntings and a whole bunch of hats. The shower is at the end of March, so I still have time to make more things.
I just love making things to help others.

Last yr we did lapghans for one of the hospices, and I donated 5 that I made. I am hopping they will be doing this agian this yr so I can make more lapghans for a good cause.

I'm making a hat and scarf set for the special HAP project going on this month. I also made a few dish cloths for the woman at Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. I'll be making a few more things in the coming months. I enjoy helping others. It gives me a sense of accomplishment.

My local CGOA Chapter, Topeka Crochet, has an ongoing charity program where we make hats, scarves, blankets, and other items then donate them locally. Last year, we donated 13 blankets & about 80 or so hats and scarves to local charities, as well as a blanket to the Race Against Breast Cancer.
For the month of March, we're continuing all of our work, as well as hosting a Yarn Drive at a local craft store. It's a chance for the community to donate yarn that will then be turned into useful items and given to charity. We wanted to host a make-a-blanket day in March, but we have so many other activities going on that it had to be postponed until April.

These days, the only thing I can manage after a hard day's work is HAP rectangles. So far I'm on my 4th one. My goal is to make 7 before the next PTE. It's a small goal, but a realistic one. And giving myself an attainable goal is easier than making an indefinite number. Sure seems to be working so far. :)

My charity of choice is our military. Whether it be lap blankets or walker bags, I make these for the VA. Last year, I sent 11 afghans to the VA. So far this year, I am sending 1 afghan and 5 walker bags.

Just about everything I make is for charity. I'm the Crochet-A-Long Leader at Crafting for a Cause. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CraftingForACause/)We make items for Pine Ridge Reservation and UC Davis (cancer center for kids). We have a different CAL every month to benefit one of the causes. Right now, I'm making a baby blanket for Pine Ridge and a quilt afghan to be sold in their webstore (money goes to the rez for propane). :)

As I make baby items for my coming granddaughter I am matching them one for one with an item for the babies in the care of the Division of Youth and Family Service since her mom works for DYFS and collects things for the babies she takes from the hospital to their foster parents.

I also do charity crocheting all year long. I do afghans in all sizes, hats, scarves and headbands. I donate to a different outreach each year. I also try to keep several rectangles in stock for WarmUpAmerican when either Michaels or AC Moore asks for them. Currently I am working on a couple of afghans that my friend sent to me the length is too short so I am adding granny squares to each end and then bordering it with sc. Looks funky but cute.

I am the Coordinator of the NW Atlanta Chapter of Project Linus. Since January of 2000 we have delivered over 16,000 blankets to ill or otherwise traumatized children. That number makes me sad because it is hard to believe that there are that many children in the area that are in need. Our Chapter is also the National Coordinator to provide a blanket to every child that has lost a parent or sibling in the wars. Sadly again, the number of children that fall into this category just reached 3,500 broken hearts. In between making blankets, I crochet rectanglesa for HAP.

I'm working to get one hat a week made for charity. It's a goal that I started at the beginning of the year and hope to continue all the way through to Dec 31. :)
I don't have a specific goal for March though... maybe I'll do a little something extra this month. :)

I have been trying to get hats made and after making a baby sweater plan to make another to donate in that families honor. There are so many things I would like to get made but probably won't have time. I would like donate some household type things to a local charity for families who can't afford basic needs. I know this month and year will be busy! Everyone is having babies right now so I hope to get two more sweaters made for gifts and match the two for the charity by the end of the month. I would also like to make some small items for the nursing home mom is in. Some of the residents don't have family and appreciate getting little trinkets once and a while.

I'm working on another RR for one of Tam's charities, and I'm making some 6 by 9 rectangles for HAP (ghans for wounded soldiers). Also, in my siggy line is a request from a church for scarves for the homeless in NYC that I found out about, along with the details. I also send a ghan or two to Fisher House at Madigan General Hospital when I can. I try to rotate the projects.

I have knitted for the homeless shelter. They usually just ask our work for socks, but I throw in some hats, and scarfs as well as some legwarmers and mitts. I wish I had more hands and money.

I crochet rectangles for HAP and baby hats/booties sets for a local hospital. I have also just sent out 14 hats to Bev for the "Warming Families" project she's working with. When time permits...after working all day and helping train dog obedience classes...I try to slip a baby afghan in there once in awhile. Makes me HAPPY!

This year I've made around 25 prayer shawls for church ( we donate them to our local hospice as well as give them to people who are facing challenges in their lives locally). I've also made 35 winter hats for the local shelter, 3 afghans for charity auctions, and two prayer shawls for the local va hospital. I plan on contacting another local shelter in a different city nearby to see what their needs are before winter.:crocheting

I love to hear about all the hard work that people donate to different organizations. Crafters are very generous people, that's for sure!
Right now, I am making at least 10 baby sweaters and hat sets for the babies at our local hospital. It makes me feel good to be able to help those who have just been born into this world.
