View Full Version : Snood Alert Pattern rsvd 7/28 Accepted for calendar

Just finished this yesterday.
My hair is so fine it doesn't hold most bun covers and such. But with Summer upon us I really needed something to get some of my hair off my neck. This is my solution.
Not even sure anyone would be interested in something like this, so I thought I would test the water before I wrote up the pattern.
It is made with Luster sheen and 1 strand of size 50 crochet thread, softened the black. I added garnets for accent, and crocheted roses done in the size 50 thread. I used a 0 size hook.
Heres the pattern

I hate having my picture taken but DH refused to model it for me.

This is great! I love snoods. I'm going to make this one, I think. I hope all my hair fits in it. I have mid back length thick hair.

Ok, just noticed that there isn't a pattern posted yet. :blush Are you going to make one for it?

Katchkan
July 9, 2005, 08:12 PM
Okay to answer the questions so far. It's easy to make.
And yes I will write up the pattern.
Plan on posting it as my Thankyou to Crochetville for being here and being what it is. A great support group for all lovers of crochet

Oh and if my hair fits in it yours should. Mine reaches down almost to my toche.

That's really beautiful! I barely have enough hair to cover my head, but I'm sure others with long hair will want this pattern.

WOW! That is really awesome! I love it and would love to make one for myself. My hair is thin also and long and I can't stand it when I'm hot and it's down or even in a ponytail. I usually clip it up or make a bun and put a scrunchie around it. Is the headband part of the snood or is it 2 separate pieces?

Katchkan
July 9, 2005, 09:26 PM
It is all one piece, that is what keeps it from sliding off.
Working on writting the pattern up now, should have it ready to post by tomorrow. Just translating all my notes into a hopefully readable form.

I love that! I cut my tush-length hair to mid-back about a month ago .. just couldn't stand it anymore .. but it grows way fast and even now it's still long enough that I'll get a lot of use out of something like that. Can't wait til you get the pattern posted!

That's really pretty and I like the way it sits against the nape of the neck. It gives it an extra air of elegance.

Beautiful snood, Kathy! I love that it's connected to the headband unlike other snood patterns I see online. Thanks for sharing the pattern! I'll add this to my loooooong crochet to-do list. :-D

Thank you for the interest. To be honest I am surprised at the response for my snood. Really thought it wasn't much, just something I made to be comfortable. Glad everyone seems to like it.
Everyone that has gotten the pattern or gets the pattern, Please let me know how I did in writting it out. I am feeling a little insecure about my abilities to write a good pattern. But one never knows if one can do something unless you try, right. Thanks once again.

I love this one. My hair is down to my bottom, so this would be perfect rather than putting it up in a bun all the time. ^_^

I have a few questions: In the pattern you mention thread and Lustre Sheen. Is that ordinary sewing thread? And if so, would it be for making it a little more "stable"? Just curious. ^_^

You did a very good job of writing it out, btw. ^_^

Keep up the good work. ^_^

Nuu ^_^

Katchkan
July 19, 2005, 08:25 PM
I used the thread with the luster sheen to make the black a little less stark. It gives almost a tweed look to the thread without over whelming it. Just gives it a softer look. I used a number fifty crochet thread I had, But sewing thread should do the same thing. It is just to adds a smidge of color.
I wore mine to the Bead Festival this weekend and got quite a few compliments on it. What was nice was I could bend over and look at the beads and my hair didn't get in my way. It made it very nice. I was rather pleased with the results of my experiment
Glad to hear you like my pattern.

I have 1 little problem.

Michael's, Wal-Mart, and Joann's doesn't have Luster Sheen. I did find it at Herrschner's, but my husband hates buying things online.

What can I use as a substitute for the Luster Sheen?

Thank-you. ^_^

Katchkan
July 22, 2005, 07:31 AM
I got my luster sheen at Joann's. But if yours doesn't carry it then ask what sport weight yarn they have. You could probably use perle cotton size 3 also and be very close the the right size.
I am normally a thread person so I am not an expert on yarn sizes.

Thanks I too have very long hair, down to my derriere, but mine it think, will it still fit it all...I will have to make one and let you know...BTW I think that's just terrible of your DH, for not modeling it, shame on him...LOL!

Kathy, I really love this. I think the addition of the headband is truely inspired. Most Snood do not include it and with extremely fine hair it falls off at the drop of a hat.:tup :idea

Great job...I used to wear those all the time when my hair was also very long. However, when baby was born, I had it chopped off and sent to Locks of Love.

The snood is beautiful and I'd still like the pattern...incase I grow my hair out again.:clap

This looks perfect for me! I've tried a few other snoods, but they're just not comfortable. My hair is past my waist and it tends to pull other snoods off my head. The headband on this one should help. I'm going to work on it today and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks!!!!!:hug

Well, duh - I never saw this thread before, wish I'd seen it sooner! I have very long hair and in the summertime must keep it up if I don't want to sweat to death! This looks like it would be perfect! And since I keep my hair tied back all the time anyway (or it flies into a big frizzball), I can still wear it even if summer is over.

Thanks for sharing your pattern Kathy - and congrats on having it accepted for the calendar! :yay

I attend a local Renaissance Faire once each fall (it runs about a month between mid Sept to mid Oct (http://www.norcalrenfaire.org) and your pattern would be quite popular there. One booth there, Ye Bag Wench (that is its actual name), sells knit and crochet items, and your snood would be perfect there. Thanks so much for posting the pattern, I have saved it.

Thank you Katchkan, that is really great! My daughter has really long and very thick hair and I think she would love this. I am going to make her one. She french braids her hair in the summer to get as much of it off her neck as possible. She is a nurse and this would work for her at work too I think. Smokey
