Does anyone know of organizations who will take knitted or crocheted toys for charity? I make a ton of toys and I do not know what to do with them... If anyone knows of anything in Colorado that would be even better.

Thanks-
Amanda

If you do not have them all given away - I would love to take some toys with when I go to Pine Ridge Reservation late this summer. I have a thread going under charities blankets for babies at Pine Ridge, but think this is one of the poorest places in the world the current life expectancy is less than haiti and I worked in Haiti for seven years so I can tell you it is really bad. Anything you would like to send our way would be terrefic. It is a 501c3 non-profit - Spirit-Rising - they have a web page, if you would like to have more information on their entire project.

Toys and and anthing else you desire can be sent to

Blankets for Pine Ridge

Thank you for listening

Rosa thank you for asking for Pine Ridge and Ro I took your address and asked if they might be willing to donate some toys and art supplies to the children of Pine Ridge. When I sent my last care package for the infant boy we sponsor I made a little rattle - the grandma thanked me twice - for a little crocheted rattle she was so thank ful. And I was so blessed

Another suggestion is that most police and fire stations accept the donation of stuffed animals and toys to give to children in emergency situations. Around here, you just take them to your local police or fire station and they keep them in the trunks of the cars and such to hand out as needed. I also know of a place online that accepts items to give to children taken from critical home situations. My Stuff Bags (http://www.mystuffbags.org/) I'm sure pretty much any charitable organization in your area would love the donation of toys, even the local hospitals.

Hey fellow Coloradan! (I'm in Denver)

I highly recommend the "My Stuff Bags" organization for donating knitted and crocheted toys, and especially knitted or crocheted blankets. Here's the link for more information:

http://www.mystuffbags.org/

I found out about this organization from the "Maggie's Crochet" newsletter. I am almost done with my very first afghan, which will be sent to My Stuff Bags along with another blanket and an overload of mint-condition Beanie Babies that have been sitting in storage bins at home.

Check it out!!!

Just wanted to add another charity to the list that is grateful for toys...

Sunbeam Kids (http://www.sunbeamkids.org.za) they work in the poorest area of South Africa with orphans and other vulnerable children and they would be grateful for any toys that people would make for them.

I would second the idea to check with local fire, police and sheriff departments first about toys. Unless they have already been provided with something, they are usually happy to take them. Although some shelters will take them, most prefer taking commercially manufactured toys due to compliance for child safety issues.

Try emailing county social services in some of the poor counties in your state and see if they can direct you also. For instance, a Toys for Tots-like program in the city area may not take hand made items, but they often do in the poorer counties who don't really benefit from those programs.
