My very bestest friend is abandoning California to move back East. I'd like to make an afghan and am looking for free pattern suggestions that speak to the theme of friendship. The only idea I've had so far is a round ripple using our birthstone colors together. Any other suggestions?

If you go here (http://www.happyyellowhouse.com/htm/quilts.html) there are some cute ideas like the one where kids are holding hands or one of the ghans with hearts on them.

I think whatever you make will be a reminder of your friendship. When I look around my house at the handmade things, each person comes to mind. I really like the blanket you can find right here on the ville http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=98793

I really like the basket weave pattern (alternating series of front and back post double crochets). You could write a note about how your lives have been woven together like a basket.....

Friendship Ring Square (http://www.kaleidesigns.com/crochet/patterns/archive/squa004.html). And thanks for posting this. My best friend is moving within 5 years (they bought property, just need to build a place), so I'll need something like this soon. :(

Thanks for all the great ideas. The basketweave idea is charming and sentimental (and I could use our birthstone colors too!) and the patterns you all have suggested are intriguing also. Keep the ideas coming! Thank you for all your help.
