I posted this in the Off Topic Conversations and several people have told me that I should make shawls, are there any really good shawls that might work with what I’m going with?
I was going to make my girls these in a shade of purple with something that matches their personally on the other side. http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quarterlychallenge/APQ_QtrlyChal3.pdf (http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quarterlychallenge/APQ_QtrlyChal3.pdf)
I do have 4 girls and a flower girl.

You girls have anyways been very helpful. I’m getting married Oct 3rd of this year and I’m running out of time. My girl really like this dress, and it did seem to fit all of them, nicely. None of my girls are about the same size at all! I have one girl that’s very top heavy; she’s really the one that I worry about the most. I need to find something that will cover her up, and it did, but I kind of feel that’s it to summery.

Do you all think that it’s kind of summery even if I put it in the lapis (purple) color?

#8631 (Make sure you go to #8631 it's not the 1st dress that you see when you click on the link)
This one is going to be my dress. Do you think they’ll go well or ok together?

People keep asking me what my theme is and to tell you the truth I really don’t have a theme. My theme if anything is affordable, since I’m just about paying for it all by my self.

I think the 2 patterns compliment each other, and the lapis color is very elegant; but you're right, something over the shoulders might be nice. If not a shawl, maybe a stole, dressy shrug, bolero or capelet?

Some non-shawls thoughts

Have you seen the "Speed Hook" shawl on Lionbrand's Pattern finder?

It is done with 1 ball of mohair and a speed hook. It is a very open, light , pattern and would add, IMO, just enough to flatter but not take away from the dresses you have chosen.

That one is kind of fun! But what is mohair? I ran it through Joann's and they did have one kind of yarn but I don't know if there are any colors that would work.

Part of me wonders if a wrap might be better then a shawl... My biggest thing is going to be making 4 of them and 2 baby blankets by Oct. LOL

Part of me kind of likes this one.

But 48 balls Bamboo yarn would cost me an arm and a leg.

A shawl or wrap would probably keep sliding off their shoulders, unless they used a clasp. They could put a wrap on backwards (ends on their backsides) & clasp it to their straps with something sparkly. A shrug or bolero may not cover much of your more endowed friend. I saw this capelet online. it's been one of my WIM. It looks fairly simple, it buttons so it will stay on but it's still "lacy" enough so you won't take away from the dress. They can take it off later on for the dancing or cover up if it's chilly outside.

Finding colors to coordiante is tough. I made shawls for my DIL & wedding party. I found most of the yarns I used on ebay at spin city yarns in Hawaii.
Good luck - whatever you decide. Congratulations & have a lovely wedding. Most important - take a few minutes for you once in a while until the big day! Tell everyone there you want copies of all the pics they take. The candid shots are the best. :lol :devil
