Description: Tunisian crochet is the best medium I have found for felted projects. It really makes terrific projects and you won't be disappointed! This bag incorporates 3 Tunisian crochet stitches and will allow you the opportunity to learn Tunisian crochet without purchasing a Tunisian crochet hook! That's right! If you have a K or L crochet hook without a thumb rest (like Brittany, Clover, or other wooden hook), you can complete this adorable bag with a smaller hook because the greatest number of stitches on the hook at any given time is only 15 stitches! In addition to learning the Tunisian stitches included in this unique project, you will learn the Tunisian Short Row Technique and then, you'll learn, step-by-step, how to felt your bag without a washing machine.

Supplies Needed:

1 skein each of two coordinating colors, Cascade 220, or other comparable felting yarn (be careful not to choose "superwash" as this will not felt)
K afghan hook (Any K or L crochet hook without a thumb rest will also work.)
Small yarn needle (for weaving ends)

This looks like a really cool class. I am very excited. I just have a quick question: would Patons classic wool be equivalent to the Cascade and work for this? I think, based on what I see on the label of the Patons, it should felt, and it is worsted weight. Based on what yardex tells me, Cascade is similar, but I want to double check with enough time to order something appropriate if need be.

I've felted Patons Merino Classic and I've found it to felt very nicely. Yes, it would substitute nicely.

Hi Kim, I have taken several classes with you already and have always learned something new! :clap I am interested in this one as well. What size is the finished bag? It's hard to tell how it will hold much stuff since it wraps around so far. Are there closures on the two vertical sides? I don't carry a whole lot of stuff in my bag, but I wouldn't want any of it to fall out! :eek Thanks!

I purposely made this bag rather small for class purposes and I wanted people to have the opportunity to experience Tunisian crochet, even without an afghan hook. The width is about 11" across at its fullest point and it has about a 4" depth on the sides. Since it's so short and squat, I plan on sewing a zipper into mine, just to be safe. Although I'm pretty certain that, once I get it finished, it will disappear because I suspect that my 18-year-old is coveting it. :)
