How to Post Photos at Crochetville

Whee! Now it's easier than ever to show your crochet projects and other photos on Crochetville. In just a few simple clicks, you can easily upload images directly to our server and display them in your posts. You'll do it by attaching images to posts. Just read the instructions below to find out how.

Please note that as of Friday, May 15, 2009, the old way of posting photos (via Photobucket or other hosting sites) will be discontinued. To read the details about why and how we made this change, go here (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=99291).

Things to Know Before Uploading Attachments

1. Very Important: Do not upload images that are not your own or that violate copyright in any way. For more details, please see Crochetville's Copyright and Trademark Policy (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=73204).

2. All images uploaded to Crochetville must be family-friendly and adhere to our community standards. Crochetville LLC shall be the sole arbiter of community standards.

3. When images are uploaded to Crochetville, they are automatically sized down to our maximum limit (100 KB and 800 pixels on the longest side). (Images equal to or smaller than both limits are not resized.) Other types of editing, such as cropping or changing the orientation (landscape vs. portrait), should be done prior to uploading with whatever image editing software you have available on your own computer.

4. For each image uploaded, a thumbnail will be automatically created (size: 250 pixels on the longest side). Thumbnails are clickable to see the larger photo.

5. You may attach multiple images to a post.

6. The total amount of storage space your attachments may occupy at Crochetville is unlimited.

How to Upload Attachments

1. If your photo file size is less than 4MB, there is no need to resize your photos before uploading! Yay!

2. When posting a new thread or replying to a thread, do one of the following: (a) click the paper clip icon above the text box or (b) scroll down to Additional Options and click the Manage Attachments button.

3. Click the Browse button, locate the file on your computer, and do one of the following: (a) single click the file and click the Open button or (b) double click the file.

(If you store your photos online you may instead choose to copy and paste the URL of your photo in the box labeled Upload File from a URL.)

4. Click the Upload button and wait until the file has uploaded. During upload, your photo will automatically be resized and a thumbnail will be automatically created.

5. Repeat for more images if needed.

6. Click Close this Window or click the red X in the upper right-hand corner.

7. If desired, place your image thumbnails where you want them to appear within your post (otherwise they will all be at the end of your post). To do so, place your cursor where you want the thumbnail to appear in your post and use the drop-down arrow next to the paper clip icon to insert the thumbnail. Repeat for each image.

8. When you are finished, click the Preview button (if desired, to see what your post will look like) and then click the Submit button.

How to Add or Remove Attachments

1. If you find that you need to add or remove attachments after submitting a post, click the Edit button at the bottom of the post, then click Go Advanced.

2. Use the paper clip icon or the Manage Attachments button (as described above) to get to the Manage Attachments window.

3. To add an attachment: follow the same instructions above in How to Upload Attachments.

4. To delete an attachment: use the Remove button, but be certain you choose the correct attachment because clicking the Remove button deletes it immediately without asking if you are sure. (If you accidentally delete the wrong attachment, you will need to re-upload it.)

5. When you are done adding or removing attachments, remember to click the Save Changes button.
