Materials:
Size 10 thread
Size 7 steel hook (1.65mm)
Needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: 7 ¼”h x 1 ½”w

Notes:

The 5 chains left free from working the dc into 6th chain counts as a skipped chain, 1dc and ch1. It will also be referred as beginning ch5.

Ch4 always counts as a dc and ch1.

Directions:

Row 1: Ch14, 1 dc in 6th chain from hook, [ch1, skip next chain, 1dc in next chain] Do this 4 times, ch4 and turn. (6dc and 5 ch1 spaces)

Row 2: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in next dc, [ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1dc in next dc] Do this 3 times, ch1, 1 dc in 4th chain of beginning ch5, ch4 and turn. (6dc and 5 ch1 spaces)

Row 3: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in next dc, [ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1dc in next dc] Do this 3 times, ch1, 1 dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch4, ch4 and turn. (6dc and 5 ch1 spaces)

Row 4-22: Repeat Row 3 for Rows 4 thru 22. (6dc and 5 ch1 spaces)

Row 23: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in next dc, [ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1dc in next dc] Do this 3 times, ch1, 1 dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch4, ch1. (6dc and 5 ch1 spaces)
Do not turn.

Border:

Notes:

The border is worked in the ch1 spaces and around the dc’s of the row ends.

The Corner consists of a row end and a ch1 space.

Rnd 1: Sl st in row end , ch2, 2 dc in same row end, [sl st in next row end, ch2, 2 dc in same row end] Do this 21 times, sl st in corner, [ch2, 2 dc, sl st, ch2, 2dc] all in same corner, [sl st in next ch1 space, ch2, 2 dc] Do this 3 times, sl st in corner, [ch2, 2 dc, sl st, ch2, 2dc] all in same corner, [sl st in next row end, ch2, 2 dc in same row end] Do this 21 times, sl st in corner, [ch2, 2 dc, sl st, ch2, 2dc] all in same corner, [sl st in next ch1 space, ch2, 2 dc] Do this 3 times, sl st in corner, ch2, 2 dc in same corner, join with sl st to first sl st of Rnd. (56 sl st, ch2, 2dc combos)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Notes:

If you want a wider bookmark increase beginning chain by 2 chains until desired width.

If you want a longer bookmark just keep repeating Row 3 until desired length.
