I am currently making a very large round ripple based on this pic:

as you can see, points are added in in two places, which makes the "hills" not so big. Just thought I'd share because I too am in the process of making this large round afghan. I was told by the person who gave me this picture that it came from an old annies attic leaflet from the '80s. You start out with 6 points, but i think you end up with 18.
I started mine with the basic round ripple pattern, making 6 points, and winging it the rest of the way. so far, so good. I also chose the Neopolitan colors of brown pink and cream. I'll have to share a pic when its done, 'cause I must say, its coming out very nice.
