I recently purchased a Kindle and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!

The thing is very addictive. I love to crochet, knit and read but since getting that Kindle I have been reading much more. Pretty soon I will need a twelve step program for this thing

we're considering a Kindle. couple questions for those of you who have one...
when you buy a kindle book, do you have proof of purchase? so that you can have a listing for backups? are there any guarantees? what happens 20 years from now? will you have anything to show for all the money you spent? what if the company closes down? Im just trying to think about the what ifs for long term usage. I would hate to invest my money into kindle books, and then have nothing to show for it years later. how long can I keep my kindle books in storage/backed up? Have you found that some books are hard to come by? is there any competition from other companies? are they just as good? did you buy the insurance? what about if it breaks down? how does it get fixed? thanks for you time and help!

I wanted one, but I was talked out of it. I would backup before you have a chance to crash... I have read horror stories about how people did not back up and then all of a sudden their books are no longer available because Amazon does not list that book anymore... Another thing, Newspapers and magazines keep only more recent editions. If you do not back them up you will lose them and Amazon does not refund anything for them.

Please remember this thread is located in the "Support Crochetville" folder, with the purpose of letting people know they can purchase the Kindle through Crochetville's Amazon affiliate link, resulting in a little extra financial support for Crochetville.

Please do not use this thread to discourage people from purchasing the Kindle, okay? I've had to remove several posts that are NOT very supportive of this effort for Crochetville.

There are other threads concerning the Kindle in other areas of Crochetville, in which it would be more appropriate to share that type of information.

Kindle now available INTERNATIONALLY!

Great news for everyone outside the United States! Amazon has just introduced an INTERNATIONAL VERSION of the Kindle! Price is $279.

This Kindles ships to customers around the world! You can receive books, newspapers, and magazines wirelessly in over 100 countries.

It does sound like the service isn't available everywhere around the world yet, so please read Amazon's information carefully to make sure your country is included in this new service.

The international Kindle can be PRE-ORDERED now for delivery starting in two weeks.

Price reduction on original Kindle

Amazon has also announced they've reduced the price on the original Kindle to $259 from $299.

Looks like this is a permanent price reduction and not a sale.

DH's Chirstmas Gift

I'm getting DH a Kindle for Christmas and happy to read your reviews.

Having Amazon store your books is how you store your tunes in your iTunes library. Your library is always there and can be downloaded to a new iPod. In this case your Kindle. Having a Book Library stored at Amazon sounds like it's on the same principle as having an Library on iTunes. No worry about losing what you've downloaded.

Before getting so involved with crochet, I was an avid reader as is my DH. Do ya think he'll will share his Kindle with me? Probably! Maybe he'll let me take it with me to next summer's Chain Link. It'll be great to use on the flights and during layovers.

Hope you get to read or crochet today.

They are giving it away free to download to a computer. Great if your lucky enough to have a notebook type computer or don't mind sitting at you desk to read books.
