Thank you, Alibra.
I just learned about the Cherokee River Reservation in SD.(85% un-employment in that region) So I am working on sending some items for them
in next month or so.
If anybody uses Caron Simply Soft here's what I did to make a pair size nb-6+months.
Add 2 additional cuff rows (16 not counting base row, about 4 inches before join). Follow the pattern.
Row 2 will be 26 sc. Two reverse rows- row 11 and 12. Row 13 decrease around, row 14 decrease
around. Turn inside out and close opening with yarn/needle. I slip through the top of the stitches
then pull it tight. Total height completed-about 4.5 inches.
If making for average baby don't increase in row 8 and less rows.
I'll probably do a 6-12 months with SS next and make adjustments. smile

Using Simply Soft by Caron (less than 2 oz. )
Baby 6-12 months

Hooks; H and I
pattern changes:
Cuff( with H hook)
Not counting base row. 18 ribbed rows.
on Row 2 after pattern increases-(28sc)
Increase row changes to increase sc end of row 10, start of row 11.
Reverse direction starts on row 14.
Decreasing
Row 19- sc, sc2TOG,*sc,sc2TOG. *repeat around.
Row 20 TOG around around.
Turn inside out and arn opening closed.
I forgot to measure cuff before joining but roughly 4.5"
Total mitten height- ~5.5inches or slightly less, measured flat and pressed down.

FYI
Mitten size chart http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/mittensize.htm
The ladies measurements would be too small fo me(I usuall wear XL ladies gloves),knit and crochet stretches, so it would fit.
Because children also can vary quite a bit you may want to have your children try them on before completion, same with the baby mitts.
The mens measurement according to one site would be about a medium mans size.
