Hi Kim,
I ordered my broomstick lace pin today and paid for my class, so I guess I just commited myself to a new experience. Actually I am really looking forwarded to learning a new technique. Can't wait. Hope my needle gets here in time, I already have the yarn in my stash. |

It is possible, although not necessarily easy, to work these stitches without an actual broomstick pin or large knitting needle. As magiccrochetfan said, she used a piece of cardboard. I would imagine that a ruler, if it's very smooth would work. And, if all else fails, the end of a broom. After all, I'm pretty sure that a broom is what was used in the beginning, hence the name broomstick. I've never used one, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for you.

I just signed up for this class and I'm looking forward to it. I do have the large knitting needle since I've played with broomstick before (but have already forgotten how I did it
. I've gotten away from crocheting for the last few months so it will be fun to get back into it. Kim, can you tell us the finished size of the shawl? JoanB |
