Materials:

Size 10 thread
Size 7 steel hook (1.65mm)
Needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: motif part- 2”h x 1 ¾”w (at its widest), bookmark- about 16 ½”h inches

Directions:

Row 1: Ch96 leaving a 6” to 5” inch tail, 1 dc in 6th chain from hook, [ch2, 1dc in same space] Do this twice, ch5 and turn.
(4dcm 3-ch2 spaces) (The ch5 and the 5 chains left free from working in 6th chain from hook count as a dc and ch2)

Row 2: [(1 dc, ch2, 1 dc) all in next ch2 space] Do this 3 times, ch2, 1dc in 3rd chain of ch5, ch1 and turn.
(8dc, 5-ch2 spaces)

Row 3: 1 sc in dc, [ch3, 1 sc in next ch2 space] Do this 5 times, ch3, 1 sc in 3rd chain of ch5, turn.
(7sc, 6-ch3 spaces)

Row 4: Sl st in ch3 space, ch1, 1 sc in same space, [ch3, 1 sc in next ch3 space] Do this 5 times, turn.
(6sc, 5-ch3 spaces)

Row 5: Sl st in ch3 space, ch1, 1 sc in same space, [ch3, 1 sc in next ch3 space] Do this 4 times, turn.
(5sc, 4-ch3 spaces)

Row 6: Sl st in ch3 space, ch1, 1 sc in same space, [ch3, 1 sc in next ch3 space] Do this 3 times, turn.
(4sc, 3-ch3 spaces)

Row 7: Sl st in ch3 space, ch1, 1 sc in same space, [ch3, 1 sc in next ch3 space] Do this 2 times, turn.
(3sc, 2-ch3 spaces)

Row 8: Sl st in ch3 space, ch1, 1 sc in same space, ch3, 1 sc in next ch3 space, turn.
(2sc, 1-ch3 spaces)

Note: Rnd 9 is worked around.

Row 9: Sl st in ch3 space, ch1, (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) all in same ch3 space, work 3 sc in each of the next 4 row ends, (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) all in next row end, 3 sc in each of the next 2 row ends, working over tail 1 sc in free loop (this will be the other side of the chain that you had worked row 1 into), 3 sc into each of the next 2 row ends, (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) all in next row end, 3 sc in each of the next 4 row ends, join with sl st to first sc made of row 9.
(49sc, 3-ch2 spaces)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Tassel: Cut 8-11 inch pieces of thread, insert hook in first chain made of ch96, fold pieces of thread over hook, pull up a loop (with pieces of thread), take hook out of loop and pull loose ends through loop and pull taut. Make a knot to secure tassel (optional). Trim tassel to make sure it’s even or to desired length.
