SIZE: Adult large, Measurements: 18" long x 13" around Size adjustments follow at end of pattern SKILL: easy You will need: Hook size: I/9-5.50mm; I used a Boye Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver/0381 Light Blue, medium weight, approximately 6 oz/342yds STITCHES: chain (ch); single crochet (sc); slip stitch (sl st) ABBREVIATIONS I might have used: ounce (oz); yards (yds); stitch (st); stitches (sts); skip (sk); space (sp); spaces (sps); each (ea) GAUGE: 8 sc and 8 rows = 2" INSTRUCTIONS Make 2 TOP RIBBING (worked in rows) ROW 1: ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 7 chs. (8 sc) turn Work all rows of ribbing in BACK LOOPS ONLY ROW 2: ch 1, sc in back loops of ea sc across. (8 sc) turn ROWS 3 thru 48: Repeat row 2. ROW 49: ch 1, sl st narrow ends of ribbing together to close seam. Work in back loop of row 48 and free loops on beginning ch. LEG (worked in rounds) ROUND 1: ch 1, sc in end of ea row around. Join in first sc. (48 sc) Do Not Turn ROUND 2: ch 1, sc in same sc as join, sc in next 4 sc, *ch 5, sk next 3 sc, ** (the ** shows where the last repeat of the round will end) sc in next 5 sc. Repeat from * around. End last repeat at **. Join in first sc. (6 ch- 5 sps) ROUND 3: sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as sl st, sc in next 2 sc, sk next sc, *ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, sk next sc ** sc in next 3 sc, sk next sc. Repeat from * around. end last repeat at **. Join in first sc. (12 ch-3 sps) ROUND 4: sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as sl st. *ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next sc, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sk next sc. ** sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. End last repeat at **. Join in first sc. (12 ch-3 sps) ROUND 5: sl st in next 2 chs, ch 1, sc in ch-3 sp, sc in next 3 sc, sc in next ch-3 sp, *ch 5, sk next sc **, sc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next 3 sc, sc in next ch-3 sp. Repeat from * around. End last repeat at **. Join in first sc. (6 ch-5 sps) ROUND 6: sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as sl st, sc in next 2 sc, *ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, sk next sc, ** sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * around. End last repeat at **. Join in first sc. (12 ch-3 sps) ROUNDS 7 thru 39: Repeat rounds 4, 5, and 6. ROUND 40: ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 2 sc, *sc in next ch-3 sp sc in next sc, sc in next ch-3 sp **, sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * around. End last repeat at **. Join in first sc. (36 sc) DO NOT CUT YARN ANKLE RIBBING (worked in rows) ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5 chs. That will bring you back down to the last round worked on the leg. sl st in same place as chain, sl st in next sc. See pic 2. Turn, DO NOT ch 1, WORK IN BACK LOOPS for the remainder of the ribbing *sk over the 2 sl sts, sc in next 6 sc. Ch 1, turn ** sc in next 6 sc, sl st in next 2 sc of last round of leg (see pic 4) Turn, do not ch 1. Repeat from * until ribbing is completely around leg. End last repeat at ** Pic 5 shows progress of ribbing around the leg Working in back loop of sc and back of beginning ch, sl st seam together. Pic 6 Fasten off and weave in ends. Make the 2nd one just like the first one. Or…if you're tired of this project and want to move on, make a chain and attach it to the larger end like a loop so you can hang it up and use it as a grocery bag keeper. CUSTOM FIT
Measure around the leg, just below the knee. Follow the pattern instructions for the top ribbing and stop when it's 1" shorter than that measurement. Make sure your number of rows in the ribbing is divisible by 8. Measure the length of the leg from just below the knee to the ankle. Follow the pattern instructions until the leg is as long as that measurement, end with a row 6. Follow the instructions for the ankle ribbing. You will have a leg warmer that will fit the intended leg. Remeber that if you are working from the custom fit measurements your stitch count at the end of rows will be different from what is written in my pattern. |
