It refers to the space made in the previous ROUND by the chain 1. NOTE 3: crossed bar st can be found at http://www.obgidge.com/lesson14.html SPECIALTY STITCHES: Crossed Bar Stitch - yo, insert hook in st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo insert hook in next st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook), yo draw thru all 5 loops on hook - crossed bar stitch made. INC Cluster - yo, insert hook in st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook) yo, insert hook in same st, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 5 loops on hook - cluster made. ROUND 1: ch 100, join to first ch to form a circle. (be careful not to twist chain) ch 1, sc in same st as join, (sk next st, sc in next st, ch 1) around. Join in first sc. Place 4 markers evenly spaced around to mark the 4 corners. Counting the ch-1 spaces as a stitch, place a marker in the 12th st (count 25 sts from marker and place marker in the 25th st) 3 times ROUND 2: ch 2 (does not count as stitch) yo, pull up a loop in same sp as join (3 loops on hook) sk next st yo, pull up a loop in next ch-1 sp (5 loops on hook) yo, draw thru 5 loops on hook. [*ch 1, yo, pull up a loop in same sp as last st, (3 loops on hook) sk next st yo, pull up a loop in next sp (5 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 5 loops on hook * (crossed bar st made) Repeat from * to * to marker (yo, insert hook in same sp as last st, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook) yo, insert hook in same sp, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 5 loops on hook) twice]. (2 increase clusters made) Place marker between inc cluster to mark corner.] repeat from [ to ] around. end with yo, pull up a loop in same sp as last st, yo, pull up a loop in same space as FIRST ST of round, (ignore beginning ch 2), yo, draw thru 5 loops on hook. ch 1, join in first crossed bar st. ROUNDS 3 thru ROUND 10: Repeat ROUND 2, moving corner markers up each round. For contrasting strip, fasten off at end of round 10 and attach contrasting color ROUNDS 11 thru ROUND 13: Repeat ROUND 2 in contrasting color. fasten off contrasting color and attach main color at end of round 13. ROUNDS 14 thru ROUND 22: Repeat ROUND 2 in main color. Do not break off. BORDER ROW 1 Note: the ch 1 that closes the cluster forms an "eye". STEP 1: ch 6, holding last loop of ea stitch on hook, 2 dtr in 6th ch from hook (3 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 2: holding last loop of ea st on hook, skip 2 ch-1 spaces, 3 dtr in next ch-1 sp (6 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 to close cluster STEP 3: Ch 6, holding last loop of ea st on hook, 2 dtr in 6th ch from hook( 3 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 4: holding last loop of ea st on hook, 3 dtr in same sp as last dtr (6 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 5: holding last loop of ea st on hook, sk 2 ch-1 spaces, 3 dtr in next sp (9 loops on hook) yo, draw loop thru all 9 loops on hook ch 1 to close cluster Repeat step 3, 4, and 5 to first corner marker CORNER at end of step 5, sk 1 sp instead of 2, then repeat step 3 and 4 (6 loops on hook) yo, draw thru 6 loops on hook ch 1 to close cluster. repeat step 3 and 4 again (6 loops on hook) yo, draw thru 6 loops on hook ch 1 to close cluster repeat step 5, skip 1 ch-1 sp instead of 2 *repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 to marker, work corner same as first corner but skip 2 ch-1 spaces instead of 1 in step 5* repeat from * to * 2 more times. end round with step 3, (3 loops on hook) join in "eye" of the first cluster. BORDER ROW 2 STEP 1: ch 6, holding last loop of eas st on hook 2 dtr in 6th ch from hook (3 loops on hook) yo, draw thru 3 loops on hook ch 1 to close cluster. STEP 2: ch 6, holding last loop of ea st on hook 2 dtr in 6th ch from hook (3 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 3: holding last loop of ea st on hook, 3 dtr in eye of first cluster of row 1 (6 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 4: holding last loop of ea st on hook 3 dtr in eye of next cluster (9 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 9 loops ch 1 to close the cluster STEP 5: ch 6, holding last loop of ea st on hook 2 dtr in 6th ch from hook (3 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 6: holding last loop on hook, 3 dtr in SAME eye (6 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 7: holding last loop on hook, 3 dtr in NEXT eye of cluster (9 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 9 loops ch 1, to close cluster. Repeat steps 5, 6, and 7 until you have 8 "eyes" on row 2, you will be at the corner. CORNER A: repeat step 5 (3 loops on hook) B: repeat step 6 (6 loops on hook) C: yo, draw thru all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 to close cluster repeat step 5, 6, and 7 once repeat A, B, and C once. Place a marker in the eye just made . Marker will be used for counting purposes. corner made SIDE Repeat steps 5, 6, and 7 to next corner. There will be 20 eyes counting the marked one and the one you just finished. Repeat instructions for corner and side, around. End with repeat step 5 (3 loops on hook) repeat step 6 (6 loops on hook) insert hook in eye of beginning cluster, yo, draw thru eye and 6 loops on hook ch 1 to close. Fasten off and weave in ends. NECKLINE We are going to do the exact same stitch around the neck as we did around the bottom, only using dc clusters instead of dtr clusters. Join yarn in 6th ch-1 sp from any inside corner. STEP 1: ch 4, holding last loop of ea st on hook 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook (3 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 2: sk next ch-1 sp, holding last loop of ea st on hook, 3 dc in next sp (6 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 6 loops. STEP 3: ch 4, holding last loop of ea st on hook 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook (3 loops on hook – leave them there) STEP 4: holding last loop of ea st on hook, 3 dc in same space as last cluster (6 loops on hook) STEP 5: sk 1 sp, holding last loop of ea st on hook, 3 dc in next sp (9 loops on hook) yo, draw thru all 9 loops on hook ch 1, to close the cluster. Repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 around, ending with ch 4, holding last loop of ea st on hook, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, yo, draw thru 3 loops on hook Join with sl st in eye of first cluster.
