Rudy the Reindeer

Here is my Christmas offering to you all. Feel free to contact me if there are any errors or if you have any confusion.



Rudy the Reindeer Amigurumi

Size: 6 ¼” Tall including antlers.

Materials:
š Vanna’s Choice – Chocolate 50 grams
š Red Heart – Warm Brown 5 grams
š Crochet Hook “H”
š 2 small eyes (6mm beads or safety eyes)
š 1 Red 13mm Jingle Bell
š Small amount of Red sport weight yarn to sew mouth and Jingle Bell on with.
š Stuffing
š Row Marker
š Tapestry Needle (steel)


Directions: All pieces are worked in spiral unless noted.
Head
Rnd 1: With Chocolate; ch 8, sc in 2nd from hook, sc 5, 3 sc in last ch. Now look at the completed sts, see the loop at the bottom, this is called the unused loop. Make sc 6 in these unused loops, in the end you will have an oval shape, place row marker at end of round and move it up with each round. (15 sts)
Rnd 2: Sc 3 in end ch (the 1st ch from hook in Rnd 1 that wasn’t used), sc 7, 3 sc in end st, sc 7. (20 sts)
Rnd 3: Sc in each st around (Work Even). (20 sts)
Rnd 4: [2 sc (inc), sc 1, 2 sc (inc), sc 7]; 2 times. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: Work Even. (24 sts)
Rnd 6: Sc 1, [2 sc (inc), sc 3, 2 sc (inc)], sc 7, repeat [ ] once, sc 6. (28 sts)
Rnd 7: Work Even. (28 sts)
Rnd 8: Sc 2, [sc 2 tog, sc 1, sc 2 tog,], sc 9, repeat [ ] once, sc 7. (24 sts)
Rnd 9: Sc 1, [sc 2 tog, sc 3, sc 2 tog], sc 5, repeat [ ] once, sc 4. (20 sts)
Rnd 10: Work Even. (20 sts)
Rnd 11: Sc 4, [2 sc (inc), sc 4]; 3 times, sc 1. (23 sts)
Rnd 12: Work Even. (23 sts)
Rnd 13: Sc 5, [2 sc (inc), sc 5]; 3 times. (26 sts)
Rnd 14 - 16: Work Even. (26 sts)
If you are using safety eyes attach them in Rnd 11 at this point.
Rnd 17: Sc 3, [sc 2 tog, sc 7]; 2 times, sc 2 tog, sc 3. (23 sts)
Rnd 18: [Sc 2, sc 2 tog]; 5 times, sc 3. (18 sts)
Rnd 19: [Sc 1. sc 2 tog]; 6 times. (12 sts)
Rnd 20: [sc 2 tog]; 6 times. (6 sts)
Finish off. Leave an 8” tail for sewing closed. Fill with stuffing and close the opening.

Body
Rnd 1: With Chocolate; make a magic loop, sc 8, place row marker at end of round and move up with each round. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: [Sc 1, 2 sc (inc)]; 8 times. (24 sts)
Rnd 4: [Sc 2, 2 sc (inc)]; 8 times. (32 sts)
Rnd 5 -7: Work Even. (32 sts)
Rnd 8: [Sc 3, 2 sc (inc)]; 8 times. (40 sts)
Rnd 9 - 13: Work Even. (40 sts)
Rnd 14: [Sc 3, sc 2 tog]; 8 times. (32 sts)
Rnd 15: [Sc 2, sc 2 tog]; 8 times. (24 sts)
Rnd 16: [Sc 1, sc 2 tog]; 8 times, sl st. (16 sts)
Finish off. Leave a 10” tail for sewing. Fill with stuffing and attach Head.

Antlers (make 2) Work in Rows.
Row 1: With Warm Brown; ch 9, sc in the camel’s hump of the 2nd ch from hook, sc 7 in camel’s hump, ch 1, turn. (8 sts)
Row 2: Sc in the first 4 sts, leaving last 4 unworked, ch 5, turn, sc in the camel’s hump of the 2nd ch from hook, sc in camel’s hump of each ch and st , ch 1, turn. (8 sts)
Row 3: Repeat Row 2, do not ch 1 and turn at the end of the row. See Figure 1 - Antler.
Tri-Fold together; place Row 3 on top of Row 1. See Figure 2 - Antler.
Sl st thru the layers. See Figure 3 - Antler.

Finish off with a sl st. See Figure 4 - Antler.
Leave an 8” tail for sewing. Set to side to attach later.

Option: Fold the second Antler the opposite direction to make one right and one left.


Tail
Rnd 1: With Chocolate; make a magic loop, sc 6. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: Work Even. (12 sts)
Rnd 4: [Sc 1, sc 2 tog], 4 times, sl st. (8 sts)
Finish off. Leave an 8” tail for sewing. Fill with stuffing and attach to Body.


Ears (make 2)
Rnd 1: With Chocolate; make a magic loop, (sc 1, db 1, tr 2, db 1, sc 1) all in loop. Draw loop closed, pinch the sides together and sl st to the 1st sc. Finish off. Leave an 8” tail for sewing.

Position Antlers and Ears and sew in place.

Legs (make 4)
Rnd 1: With Chocolate; make a magic loop, sc 8. (8 sts) Variation: use black for these
Rnd 2: [Sc 1, 2 sc (inc)], 4 times. (12 sts) two rows, then Chocolate.
Rnd 3 - 5: Work Even. (12 sts)
Sl st, finish off. Leave an 8” tail for sewing. Fill with stuffing and attach to Body.

With Red; attach Jingle Bell for the nose and embroider the mouth.

Terminology

sc = Single Crochet
dc = Double Crochet
tr = Treble Crochet
sl st = Slip Stitch
sts = Stitches
inc = Increase
[ ] = Work instruction within brackets as many times as directed
tog = Stitch Together the number of stitches indicated (decrease)
Camel’s hump = The back or 3rd loop on the chain stitch
Work Even = Work one stitch in each stitch of round or row below

I was reading the thread on the show & tell...he is just adorable. I've been looking for something to make for christmas for babies - these will be adorable (i'll embroider on the eyes and nose)
