Materials J hook 4 oz Red Heart Hokey Pokey, Robins Egg Gauge= 3 rows = 2" and 7 sts = 2" Note 1: beginning ch 3 counts as first stitch Note 2: numbers in ( ) at end of rows state number of stitches for that row Note 3: rows are joined, but not turned at the end ROW 1: Ch 4, 11 dc in 1st ch, join in 3rd ch of beginning ch. (12 sts) ROW 2: Ch 3, (2 dc in next st) around, end with 1 dc in the join of previous row. [that's the stitch right next to the beginning ch] join to top of beginning ch (24 sts) ROW 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next st, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc's in next st) around. Join in top of beginning ch (36 sts) ROW 4: Ch 3, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts) around, to last 2 sts, end with 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st. Join in top of beginning ch. (48 sts) ROW 5: Ch 3, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 3 dc) around to last 3 sts. End with 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in last 2 sts. Join in top of beginning ch. (60 sts) ROW 6: Ch 3, (1 dc in next st) around. Join in top of beginning ch. (60 sts) ROW 7: Repeat row 6. (60 sts) ROW 8: Ch 3, 4 dc in same st as join, sk 2 sts, sc in next st, sk 2 sts, (5 dc in next st, sk 2 sts, sc in next st, sk 2 sts) around. Join in top of beginning ch 3. (50 dc's and 10 sc's) ROW 9: Sl st in next 2 sts, ch 1, sc in same st, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sts, (sc in next st, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 st) around. Join in top of beg ch. (50 dc's and 10 sc's) ROW 10: Repeat row 8. ROW 11: Repeat row 9. Fasten off and weave in ends. NOTE: For longer hat, continue repeating row 8 and row 9 until hat fits the way you want it to. CURLS FOR SARAH'S SHELLS 1. Leaving a long tail, Ch 30, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in next st to within 3 sts of end of chain, sl st in next st. 2. ch 25, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in next st to end of chain, sl st in next st. 3. ch 25, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in next st to end of chain, sl st in last st, then sl st in first dc of first curl. Leaving a long tail, fasten off. Do not weave in ends. 4. Tie the 2 tails together, and pull both tails through the center top of hat to the inside. Separate the tails and weave one tail under one or 2 stitches and weave the other tail under one or 2 stitches directly across from it. 5. Tie the tails into a bow if you wish to have the curls removeable or tie the tails in a knot if you want them to be permanent. Weave in ends if the curls will be a permanent part of the hat.
