Materials:

Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors (Color A/Color B)
Size H hook (5.00mm)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: About 8”h x 8”w inches

Special Stitches:

V-st: 1 dc in next st, ch2, 1 dc in same st.

Note: Square in picture was made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Soft White and Soft Navy.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With Color A ch5, join with sl st to first chain to form ring. Ch2, 14 dc in ring, join with sl st to first dc.
(14dc)

Rnd 2: Ch1, 2 sc in same st as joining, 2 sc in each of the next 13 sts, join with sl st to front loop of first sc.
(28sc)

Rnd 3 is worked in the front loops only of the sc.

Rnd 3: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, ch5, sl st in 5th chain from hook, [1dc in next st, 1hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, ch5, sl st in 5th chain from hook] Do this 3 times, 1dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, join with sl st to first sc through both loops.
(8dc, 8hdc, 12sc, 4-ch5 loops) (28sts total)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Rnd 4 is worked into the back loops left free from working Rnd 3 in front loops only. Do not work into the sts of Rnd 3. You will just be working in the back loops left free on Rnd 2.

Rnd 4: With Right Side Facing you, join Color B with sl st to back loop left free from working last sc of Rnd 3, Ch5, 1 dc in same back loop, [1 dc in next back loop, 1 hdc in next back loop, 1 sc in each of the next 2 back loops, 1 hdc in next back loop, 1 dc in next back loop, (1 dc, ch2, 1 dc) all in next back loop] Do this 3 times, 1 dc in next back loop, 1 hdc in next back loop, 1 sc in each of the next 2 back loops, 1 hdc in next back loop, 1 dc in next back loop, join with sl st to 3rd chain of ch5.
(16dc, 8hdc, 8sc, 4-ch2 spaces) (32sts total) (Starting ch5 counts as dc and ch2)

Rnd 5: Ch1, 1 hdc in same st as joining, [(2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) all in next ch2 space, 1 hdc in each of the next 8 sts] Do this 3 times, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) all in next ch2 space, 1 hdc in each of the next 7 sts, join with sl st to first hdc.
(48hdc, 4-ch2 spaces)

Rnd 6: Ch2, 1 dc in same st as joining, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, [(2 dc, ch2, 2dc) all in next ch2 space, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, 1 dc in next st going through the ch5 loop of Rnd 3, 1 dc in next st, going through same ch5 loop, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts] Do this 3 times, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) all in next ch2 space, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, 1 dc in next st going through ch5 loop of Rnd 3, 1 dc in next st going through same ch5 loop, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, join with sl st to first dc.
(64dc, 4-ch2 spaces)

Rnd 7: Ch5, 1 dc in same st as joining, skip next 2 sts, V-st in next st, skip next st, {(2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) all in next ch2 space, [skip next 2 sts, V-st in next st] Do this 5 times, skip next st} Do this 3 times, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) all in next ch2 space, skip next 2 sts, [V-st, skip next 2 sts] Do this 3 times, join with sl st to 3rd chain of ch5.
(20 V-sts, 16dc, 4-ch2 spaces) or (56dc, 20-ch2 spaces, 4-corner ch2 spaces)
(First ch5 and dc counts as V-st)

Rnd 8: Sl st in next ch2 space, ch3, 2 dc in same space, ch1, skip next 2 dc, 3 dc in next ch2 space, skip next 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, {(3 dc, ch2, 3 dc) all in next ch2 space, 1 dc in next dc, [skip next 2 dc, 3 dc in next ch2 space] Do this 5 times, skip next 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc} Do this 3 times, (3 dc, ch2, 3 dc) all in next ch2 space, 1 dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc, [3 dc in next ch2 space, skip next 2 dc] Do this 3 times, join with sl st to top of ch3.
(92dc, 24-ch1 spaces, 4-ch2 spaces) (Starting ch3 counts as dc)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Thank you for the pattern! I just made one of these, it came out beautiful! My only problem is that it was only 6 1/4 inches when I was finished and I went UP 2 hook sizes!!!! :O
