Notes: Squares in pics are made with Red Heart Supersaver yarn.

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn in 3 different colors
(Color A, Color B, Color C)
Size H hook (5.00mm)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: 8”h x 8”w

Different Stitches:

Extended Double Crochet (EDC)-Yarn over, insert hook in specified st, yarn over, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw thru one loop, yarn over, draw thru two loops, yarn over, draw thru last two loops.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With Color A ch2, 8 hdc in 2nd chain from hook, join with sl st to front loop of first hdc.
(8 hdc)

Rnd 2: [Ch3, sl st in front loop of next st] Do this 7 times, ch3, join with sl st to joining sl st if Rnd 1.
(8-ch3 loops, 8 sl sts)

Note: For Rnd 3 your working in the back loops left free from working Rnd 2 in front loops only. Do not work in any of the ch3 loop or sl sts made from working Rnd 2.

Rnd 3: Sl st in first free back loop, ch1, 1 sc in same back loop, [2 sc in same back loop, 1 sc in next back loop] Do this 3 times, 2 sc in next back loop, join with sl st to front loop of first sc.
(12sc)

Rnd 4: [Ch3, sl st in front loop of next st] Do this 11 times, ch3, join with sl st to joining slst of Rnd 3.
(12-ch3 spaces, 12 sl sts)

Finish off.

Note: Rnd 5 is worked in the back loops left free from working Rnd 4 in front loops only. Do not work in any ch3 loops or sl sts made from working Rnd 4.

Rnd 5: Join Color B with sl st to first free back loop, ch2, 1 dc in same back loop, 2 dc in each of the next 11 back loops, 1 dc in same back loop as first dc, join with sl st to first dc.
(24dc) (ch2 does not count as dc)

Rnd 6: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, (1 EDC, ch3, 1 EDC) all in next st, [1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 1hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, (1 EDC, ch3, 1 EDC) all in next st] Do this 3 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, join with sl st to first sc.
(4sc, 8 hdc, 8dc, 8 EDC, 4-ch3 spaces) (28sts total)

Rnd 7: Ch1, 1 hdc in same st as joining, 1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) all in next ch3 space, [1 hdc in each of the next 7 sts, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) all in next ch3 space] Do this 3 times, 1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, join with sl st to first hdc.
(44 hdc, 4-ch2 spaces)

Rnd 8: Ch2, Ch2, 2 dc in same st as joining, skip next 2 sts, sl st in next st, ch2, 2 dc in same st, skip next 2 sts, sl st in next ch2 space, 2 dc in same ch2 space, {[skip next 2 sts, sl st in next st, ch2, 2 dc in same st] Do this 3 times, skip next 2 sts, sl st in next ch2 space, 2 dc in same ch2 space} Do this 3 times, skip next 2 sts, sl st in next st, ch2, 2 dc in same st, skip next 2 sts, join with sl st to joining sl st of Rnd 7.
(16-“ch2 2dc combos”)

Finish off.

Rnd 9: Join Color C with sl st to first dc made of any “ch2 dc combo”, ch1, 1 sc in same dc, ch3, 1 sc in same dc{[ch3, 1 sc in first dc of next “ch2 dc combo”] Do this 4 times, ch3, 1 sc in same dc} Do this 3 times, [ch3, 1 sc in first dc of next “ch2 dc combo”] Do this 3 times, ch3, join with sl st to first sc.
(20sc, 16-ch3 spaces, 4-corner ch3 spaces)

Note: At this point it may look a little wonky, don’t worry, just keep working pattern. If you have trouble try going up to a bigger hook size.

Rnd 10: Sl st into corner ch3 space, ch3, (2 dc, ch3, 3 dc) all in same ch3 space, {[ch1, skip next sc, 3 dc in next ch3 space] Do this 4 times, ch1, skip next sc, (3 dc, ch3, 3 dc) all in next corner ch3 space} Do this 3 times, [ch1, skip next sc, 3 dc in next ch3 space] Do this 4 times, ch1, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.
(72dc, 20-ch1 spaces, 4-ch3 spaces) (Beginning ch3 counts as dc)

Rnd 11: Sl st in each of the next 2 dc, sl st in next ch3 space, ch3, (2 dc, ch3, 3 dc) all in same ch3 space, {[ch1, skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch3 space] Do this 5 times, ch1, skip next 3 dc, (3 dc, ch3, 3 dc) all in next ch3 space} Do this 3 times, [ch1, skip next sc, 3 dc in next ch3 space] Do this 5 times, ch1, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.
(84dc, 24-ch1 spaces, 4-ch3 spaces) (Beginning ch3 counts as dc)

Rnd 12: ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) all in next ch3 space, {1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, [1 sc in next ch1 space, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts] Do this 6 times, (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) all in next ch3 space} Do this 3 times, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, [1 sc in next ch1 space, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts] Do this 5 times, 1 sc in next ch1 space, join with sl st to first sc.
(124sc, 4-ch2 spaces)

Finish off and weave in ends.
