Note: Square in picture is made using Red Heart Super Saver yarn.

Materials:

Worsted Weight yarn in tan and brown
Size H hook (5.00mm)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: 8”h x 8”w

Different Stitches:

Extended Double Crochet (EDC)-Yarn over, insert hook in specified st, yarn over, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw thru one loop, yarn over, draw thru two loops, yarn over, draw thru last two loops.

Picot: Ch2, 1 sc in 2nd chain from hook.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With tan ch2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from, join with sl st to first sc.
(6sc)
Rnd 2:Ch1, 2 sc in same st as joining, 2 sc in each of the next 5 sts, join with sl st to first sc.
(12sc)
Rnd 3: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st] Do this 5 times, 2 sc in next st, join with sl st to first sc, ch1 and turn.
(18sc)

Rnd 4: Ch1, 2 sc in same st as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] Do this 5 times, join with sl st to first sc, ch1 and turn.
(24sc)

Rnd 5: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 23 sts, join with sl st to first sc.
(24sc)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Rnd 6: Join brown yarn leaving a 18” inch or longer end (for later embroidering) with sl st to back loop of any st, ch1, 1 sc in same back loop, 1 sc in back loop of next st, [2 sc in back loop of next st, 1 sc in back loop of each of the next 2 sts] Do this 7 times, 2 sc in back loop of next st, join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 7: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, (1 EDC, ch3, 1 EDC) all in next st, [1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, (1 EDC, ch3, 1 EDC) all in next st] Do this 3 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in next st, join with sl st to first sc.
(12sc, 8 hdc, 8dc, 8 EDC, 4-ch3 spaces) (36sts total)

Rnd 8: Ch1, 1 hdc in same st as joining, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, (2 hdc, ch3, 2 hdc) all in next ch3 space, [1 hdc in each of the next 9 sts, (2 hdc, ch3, 2 hdc) all in next ch3 space] Do this 3 times, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, join with sl st to first hdc.
(52hdc, 4-ch3 spaces)

Rnd 9: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, [Picot, skip next st, 1 sc in next st] Do this3 times, (1 sc, ch2, 1 sc) all in next ch3 space, {1 sc in next st, [Picot, skip next st, 1 sc in next st] Do this 6 times, (1 sc, ch2, 1 sc) all in next ch3 space} Do this 3 times, 1 sc in next st, [Picot, skip next st, 1 sc in next st] Do this2 times, Picot, skip next st, join with sl st to first sc.
(36sc, 24 Picots, 4-ch2 spaces)

Finish off.

Note: On Rnd 10 you’ll be working into the skipped stitches, so you’ll be working behind the Picots. Do not work into Picots.

Rnd 10: Join tan with sl st to any ch2 space, ch3, (1 dc, ch2, 2 dc) all in same ch2 space, {*1dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 EDC in skipped st, [1 dc in next st, 1 EDC in next skipped st] Do this 5 times, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts*, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) all in next ch2 space} Do this 3 times, Repeat from * to * once, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3, ch1 and turn.
(52dc, 24 EDC, 4-ch2 spaces) (76sts total)

Note: The following rows are worked on the wrong side of square. I do this because I like how the backside of the hdc looks on the front. It gives it a slight border.

Rnd 11: 1 hdc in each of the next 17 sts, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) all in next ch2 space, [1 hdc in each of the next 19 sts, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) all in next ch2 space] Do this 3 times, 1 hdc in each of the next2 sts, join with sl st to first hdc.
(92 hdc, 4-ch2 spaces)

Rnd 12: Ch1, 1 hdc in same st as joining, 1 hdc in each of the next 18 sts, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 dc) all in next ch2 space, [1 hdc in each of the next 23 sts, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) all in next ch2 space] Do this 3 times, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, join with sl st to first hdc.
(108hdc, 4-ch2 spaces)

Finish off and weave in all ends except for end from joining brown for Rnd 6.

Chocolate Chips: With yarn needle and long end embroider chocolate chips onto cookie part of square.
