Simple and Elegant Charm 8" Afghan Square Pattern
By Julee A. Reeves Finished size: 8" X 8" Materials: Approx. 2 ozs worsted weight cotton yarn "H" crochet hook Tapestry Needle Gauge: First 3 Rnds of pattern= 3" Stitches Used: Ch, Sl St, Sc, Dc. Special Stitches: Popcorn: Dc in indicated space 5 times, take hook out of loop and insert into first Dc made, then back into the dropped loop. Pull the loop through the first Dc. Shell: (3 Dc, Ch2, 3 Dc) in indicated space. Important Abbreviations to know: Beg: Beginning Sc: Single Crochet Sp: Space Ch: Chain Dc: Double Crochet Sl St: Slip Stitch Notes: You can sew these squares together or you can use THIS method of crocheting your squares together as they are made. It’s really simple. REALLY FAST and I’m just in love with this method. It’s REALLY pretty too!! :-D Instructions: Ch2, Rnd 1: 8 Sc in second Ch from Hk; Join with Sl St in first Sc. (8 Sc) Rnd 2: Ch3, Dc 4 times in same St as Sl St (base of Ch3), take hook out of loop and insert into first Dc made (top of Ch3), then back into the dropped loop. Pull the loop through the first Dc, Ch2 , *Popcorn in next Sc, Ch2*; Repeat from * to * 7 times. Join with Sl St in top of beg Ch3. Sl St in next Ch2 Sp. (8 Popcorn Sts, 8 Ch2 Sps) Rnd 3: Ch3, (2 Dc, Ch2, 3 Dc) in same St as Sl St, *3 Dc in next Ch 2 Sp, Shell in next Ch2 Sp*. Repeat from * to * 3 times. 3 Dc in last Ch 3 Sp. Join with Sl St in top of beg Ch3. Sl St in next Dc. (36 Dc, 4- Ch2 Spaces) Rnd 4: Ch1, Sc in same St as Sl St, Ch2, Skip next Dc, *(Sc, Ch2, Sc) in corner Ch2 Sp, (Ch2, Skip next Dc, Sc in next Dc) 4 times, Ch2, Skip next Dc*. Repeat from * to * 3 times, (Ch2, Skip next Dc, Sc in next Dc) 3 times, Ch2. Join with Sl St in top of beg Sc. (32 Ch2 Sps) Rnd 7: Ch1, Sc in same Ch2 Sp as Sl St, Ch2, *( Sc, Ch2, Sc) in corner Ch2 Sp, (Ch2, Sc in next Ch2 Sp) 7 times, Ch2.* Repeat from * to * 3 times, (Ch2, Sc in next Ch2 Sp)6 times, Ch2. Join with Sl St in top of Beg Sc. Sl St in next Ch2 Sp. (40 Ch2 Sps) Rnd 9: Ch1, Sc in same Ch2 Sp as Sl St, Ch2, *(Sc, Ch2, Sc) in corner Ch2 Sp, (Ch2, Sc in next Ch2 Sp) 9 times, Ch2.* Repeat from * to * 3 times, (Ch2, Sc in next Ch2 Sp) 8 times, Ch2. Join with Sl St in top of Beg Sc. Sl St in next Ch2 Sp. (44 Ch2 Sps) Rnd 10: Ch1, Sc in same Ch2 Sp as Sl St, Ch1, *Sc, Ch2, Sc) in corner Ch2 Sp, (Ch1, Sc in next Ch2 Sp) 10 times, Ch1.* Repeat from *to * 2 times, (Ch1, Sc in next Ch2 Sp) 9 times, Ch1. Join with Sl St in top of Beg Sc. (44 Ch1 Sps, 4 Sp) (All Stitches in Rnd 11 are worked in the Back Loop unless other wise written). Rnd 11: Ch1, Sc in Same St as Sl St, *Sc in Back Loop of each Sc and Ch across to corner Ch2 Sp, Sc in 1st Ch of corner, Ch2, Sc in 2nd Ch of corner*. Repeat from * to * 4 times, Sc in Back Loop of each Remaining Sc and Ch across. Join with Sl St in top of Beg Sc. (100 Sc, 4 Ch2 Sps) Rnd 12: Ch1, Sc in same St as Sl St, *Sc in each Sc to Corner, (Sc, Ch2, Sc) in Ch2 Sp*. Repeat from * to * 4 times. Sc in each remaining Sc across. Join with Sl St in top of Beg Sc. (108 Sc, 4 Ch2 Sps) Rnd 13: Repeat Rnd 12. (116 Sc, 4 Ch2 Sps) Finishing off: If you are going to be sewing your squares together than cut your yarn now leaving enough yarn to weave in the end very securely or leave enough yarn to sew your squares together with.
