Detachable Flower Beanie

This is such a fun little hat. Make flowers in any colors and varieties and you can change them out anytime you want and to go with any outfit.

Materials Needed:

Crochet Hook size I
1” button
Tapestry Needle

Size: Toddler

Chain 4, slip stitch to join

Round 1: Chain 2 counts as first dc in circle, 12 more dcs in circle, slip stitch to join. (13 dc)

Round 2: Chain 3, dc in same st (counts as first "V" stitch), * ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 dc ch 1, 1 dc in next stitch,* repeat * to * the rest of the way around, sl st to join (7 V stitches)

Round 3: Sl st in middle of first V stitch, ch 2 (counts as first dc of cluster), 3 more dc in first V stitch, * sc in ch 1 between V stitches, 4 dc in V st *, * repeat* the rest of the way around, sl st in beg st (7 clusters)
Round 4: Ch 2, sc between 2nd and 3rd dc in cluster, * ch 2, dc in sc, ch 2, sc in between 2nd and 3rd dc in cluster, * repeat * all the way around, sl st in beg stitch. (42 st)

Round 5: Sl st in 1st ch 2 sp, ch 3, dc in same st (V stitch), * ch 1, V st in next ch 2 space, ch 1, V stitch in next ch 2 space *, * repeat * all the way around, sl st in beg stitch (14 V st)

Round 6: Sl st in middle of first V stitch, ch 2 (counts as first dc of cluster), 3 more dc in first V stitch, * sc in ch 1 between V stitches, 4 dc in V st *, * repeat* the rest of the way around, sl st in beg st (14 clusters)

Round 7: Sl st in between 2nd and 3rd dc in cluster, ch 1 dc in sc, ch 1, sc in between 2nd and 3rd dc in cluster, * repeat * all the way around, sl st in beg stitch. (56 st)

Round 8: Sl st in 1st ch 1 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc ch 1 – also called a “V” stitch) dc in same st, * V stitch in next ch 1 space *, * repeat * all the way around, sl st in beg stitch (27 V stitches)

Round 9: Sc in 1st V stitch, cluster stitch in 2nd V stitch. Continue this pattern all the way around. (14 clusters) Sl st in beg sc.

Round 10: Ch 1, * sc between 2nd and 3rd st of cluster , ch 1, dc in sc, ch 1 *, * repeat * all the way around, sl st in beg st (56 st).

Round 11: Sl st in 1st ch 1 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc ch 1 – also called a “V” stitch) dc in same st, * V stitch in next ch 2 space *, * repeat * all the way around, sl st in beg stitch (27 V stitches)

Round 12: Repeat Round 8

Round 13: Repeat Round 9

Round 14. Ch 3, * sc in between 2nd and 3rd st of cluster *, dc in sc, ch 1 * repeat * all the way around, sl st in beg st. (This decreases so you don’t have to put the elastic in. If you want to put the elastic in then just repeat Round 10.)

Round 15: Ch 2, dc all around, slip st in beg stitch.

Round 16: * Sk 1, 4 dc in same st, sk 1 sc in next st,* * repeat *, sl st in beg. Stitch.

Finish off.

Sew your button on the side of your beanie. You will want to make sure your button is the right size for the opening. The one I used was a 1” button and it worked well with both these flowers.

Easy flower:

Ch 5, join with sl st in first ch.
Ch 1, sc 9 into ring (crocheting over tail as you go), join with sl st in first sc. (9 sts)
Ch 1, *sc 2 into st, sc 1 into next st, rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. (14 sts)
Ch 3, *dc 3 into st, continue around; join with sl st in first dc. (42 sts)
Picot edge: *sc into st, ch2, sc into same st, rep from * around; join with sl st in first picot and finish off.

Sew a button or large bead in the center of the flower.

Note: If you want a smaller flower, simply sc in each round instead of dc.

Another easy flower:

CH 5. Form a loop.

1) sc ch 3, 5 times in loop.

2) Sl st in loop. Ch 3, 9 dc, sc in previous round. 10 dc in next loop, sc in previous loop. Continue around three more times, sc and s; st in beg ch. If desired, sc all the way around in contrasting color, sc in row underneath to separate flower petals.

NOTE: You can use this pattern for anything you want. In fact, you can use any hat pattern you want. I'm just sharing what I came up with. Hope it gives you some great ideas.

Many thanks!

I plan to make this hat and many other types to give out on the bus to all the polite girls and boys that give up their seats to the elderly. I travel the bus every day and see so many diplay kindness that I think it is time we show appreciation.

Your pattern will be one of many given out thank you.
