That Froggy Square 6"x6" inches (3 images)

Decided to make this square end with the same amount of stitches as the turtle square just in case any body wanted to combine the two.

Please send me a pm if you find any errors.

Extended Double Crochet (EDC)-Yarn over, insert hook in specified st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw thru one loop, yarn over, draw thru two loops, yarn over, draw thru last two loops.

Directions:

Frog:

Rnd 1: Ch5 leaving a tail, join with sl st to first chain to form ring, ch2, 12 in ring crocheting over tail, join with sl st to front loop of first dc.
(12dc) (Ch2 does not count as dc)

Pull tail taut to close hole from starting.

Work Rnd 2 in front loops only.

Rnd 2: (1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc) all in front loop of next st (this will be the head), sl st in front loop of each of the next 2 sts, ch9, sl st in 5th chain from hook, ch4, sl st in same chain as last sl st, 1 sc in next chain, 2 sc in each of the next 3 chains (first arm made), sl st in front loop of each of the next 2 sts, ch10, sl st in 5th chain from hook, ch4, sl st in same chain a last sl st, 1 sc in next chain, sc decrease next 2 chains together, Dc decrease next 2 chains together (first leg made), sl st in front loop of each of the next 4 sts, ch8, sl st in 5th chain from hook, ch4, sl st in same chain as last sl st, 1 sc in next chain, 2 sc in next chain, 2 dc in next chain (second leg made), sl st in front loop of each of the next 2 sts, ch12, sl st in 5th chain from hook, ch4, sl st in same chain as last sl st, 1 sc in next chain, [Sc decrease next 2 chains together] Do this 3 times (second arm made), join with sl st to joining sl st of Rnd 1.
(1 head, 2 arms, 2 legs)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Square Part:

Note: On Rnd 1 of Square part you’re working in the back loops left free from working Rnd 2 of Frog in front loops only. Only work in those free back loops and do not work in any of the stitches made from Rnd 2.

Rnd 1: With right side of Frog facing you join Square color with sl st to first back loop left free, ch2, 2 dc in same back loop, 2 dc in each of the next 11 free back loops, join with sl st to first dc.
(24dc) (beginning ch2 does not count as dc)

Note: On Rnd2 you’re gonna connect the head, arms and legs of the Frog to the square part. You’ll do this by yarning over, insert hook thru specified stitch on Frog before inserting hook in specified stitch on square part, yarn over, draw up a loop, [yarn over, draw thru 2 loops on hook] Do this 2 times. Now you’ve just join the 2 parts together with a dc.

On the first leg and second arm of Frog you’ll be working into the chain loops left free from working stitches into the original chain to create the arm and leg.

On the head you will work into the Back Back Loop (BBL) of the dc on head. Working in the BBL only will leave the front and back loops free creating a ridge, which makes a more rounded and shapely head.

Only also work into Frog when specified.

Rnd 2: Ch2, 2 dc in same st as joining, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in same st also thru BBL of first dc on Frog’s head, 1 dc in next st also going thru BBL of next dc on Frog’s head, 1 dc in next st also going thru BBL of next dc on Frog’s head, 1 dc in same st (do not work into frog), 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st also going thru 4th sc on First Frog arm, 1 dc in same st also going thru next sc on First Frog arm, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st also going thru chain loop that first half of the Dc decrease is worked into on First Frog leg, 1 dc in next st also going thru next chain loop on First Frog leg, 1 dc in same st (do not work into frog), 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in same st also going thru 3rd sc on Second Frog leg, 1 dc in next st also going thru first dc on Second Frog leg, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in same st also going thru 4th chain loop of Second Frog arm, 1 dc in next st also going thru next chain loop of Second Frog arm, join with sl st to first dc.
(36dc) (Ch2 does not count as dc)

Rnd 3: Ch1, 1 hdc in same st as joining, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, [1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st] Do this 7 times, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, join with sl st to first hdc.
(44 hdc)

Note: On Rnd 4 you’re going to join the hands and feet (the 2-ch4 loops at the end of the arms and legs) to the square part (Rnd 3) to keep them from curling up. You’ll do this by inserting hook into ch4 loop before inserting hook onto square part when working a specified stitch. Only work thru ch4 loop when specified.

Rnd 4: Ch2, 1 dc in same st as joining, 1 EDC in next st, ch3, 1 EDC in same st going thru first ch4 loop of Second Frog arm, 1 dc in next st going thru next ch4 loop of Second Frog arm, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st going thru first ch4 loop on First Frog arm, 1 EDC in next st going thru next ch4 loop on First Frog arm, ch3, 1 EDC in same st (do not work into frog), 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, (1 EDC, ch3, 1 EDC) all in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st going thru first ch4 loop on First Frog leg, 1 hdc in next st going thru next ch4 loop on First Frog leg, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st going thru first ch4 loop on Second Frog leg, 1 dc in next st going thru next ch4 loop on Second Frog leg, 1 dc in next st, (1 EDC, ch3, 1 EDC) all in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, join with sl st to first dc.
(16dc, 16 hdc, 8sc, 8 EDC, 4-ch3 spaces) (48sts total) (Beginning ch2 does not count as dc)

Rnd 5: Ch2, 1 dc in same st as joining, 1 dc in next st, (2 dc, ch2, 3 dc) all in ch3 space, [1 dc in each of the next 12 sts, (2 dc, ch2, 3dc) all in next ch3 space] Do this 3 times, 1 dc in each of the next 10 sts, join with sl st to first dc.
(68dc, 4-ch2 spaces) (Ch2 does not count as dc)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Tongue (optional): Start with slipknot on hook, remove off hook. From front of square insert hook in BBL of middle dc on Frog’s head and into coordinating st on Square part, put slipknot back on hook, pull up a loop, ch1 (by inserting hook in between two dc on Rnd 2 of Square part, yarn over and pull thru loop on hook), sl st into actual st on Rnd 2 on Square part, sl st in between 2 hdc on Rnd 3 of Square part, sl st around post of one of the hdc, finish off and weave in ends.

Enjoy!!!!
