Hot water bottle cozy

I googled for a hot water bottle cover, and saw some really cute knit ones, but olnly one for crochet- and it uses a drawstring closure. I like the button closure- the type that looks like a sweater front. I may have to try and come up with something on my own, but it kinda scares me since I'm a newbie and I haven't made a sweater before. Anyone know of a pattern?

Do you knit? If so I would knit one then write a pattern for one. If not then get the dementions off one of those knit patterns and improvise. Good luck!

Could you improvise something similar to Donna's Flax Stress pack at CrochetMe?

Well, I dove in, working form the bottom up. The only way I can think of to describe what I've done so far is that its shaped like the toe of a sock, with a big buttonhole for the tab. I'll probably do a few straight rows, then split it and put in a button placket- high hopes, since I've been crocheting for just a few months! Oh well, it's fun... and who knows, it might be cute!

You have learned a great lesson.
You dont need a pattern for everything. A pattern is just a guide to be changed to suit your needs so you are suiting your needs by not even having a pattern in the first place.
Remember to write down what you do so, if you love how it turns out, you can make more. Your family and friends will all want them.
Over the years, I have made a lot of things by doing a bit, then trying it over what it has to fit, be it a head, a foot or a hand. The only time you have a problem is when your model keeps crawling away or running outside to play.
The worst that can happen when you make up your own pattern is that you have to unravel a bit and do it again.

Yep, already frogged some. I'm doing a great immitation of ADD meets crochet and have about 5 things going at once, so who knows when I'll get it done. I'm using a soft acrilic from my stash to play with because it's easy to work with and see. I'm doing a ton of cotton for this last round of Christmas gifts and my hands need the break!

Thanks again for the encouragemnt, guys- I've looked at all the links and suggestions and are incorporating quite a few of them.

Now we jsut hope I don't get too distracted to finish before the weather warms up. I'll never get it done then!

Hey Debbie! That looks so cute... I'm not currently working on it because 1) I've gotten totally distracted working on two afghans now that my yarn order is here and 2) its been in the forties here for a month now, and my toes are no longer frozen at night . I've actually learned a lot since I posted that note, and I have some better/easier ideas for construction. I definately like how you have some open stitches in there- I would think it would let more of the heat out, KWIM? My nasty little prototype (read: froggola) seemed to insulate it TOO well.
