Help again

Yeah I'm needing help again! This doily was made by DH's Mother, by sight off of one that her mother made. Question, anyone have an idea if this is a pattern? Would have been old if it is a pattern but I'm thinking maybe it's not a written pattern ...- anyone have any idea ?
Also I was wondering if those are pineapples or pinecones?
I'm not good enough yet at looking at things and figuring them out so I'm kinda clueless here .

That's beautiful! I know very little about doilies ing1 , but an experienced crocheter definitely could sit down with it and recreate it. I take it that when you DH's mother made it, she did not write down any notes?

Re: help again

I believe those are pineapples. And that is a most beautiful doily. It might take awhile, but I believe someone could sit down and figure the pattern out. My grandma was good at that. Wished she would of past the talent along!

Re: help again

Thanks ladies, I decided last night I'll give it a go at trying to figure it out. May take awhile but maybe this willhelp me in figuring out patterns for other things as well.
And no, she didn't leave any notes. The only things I know about it is she copied it from her mother's who evidently (or so the story goes) copied it from her mothers. She made one for DH and he sat a plant on it not realizing that every time he watered the plant it leaked onto the doily; he finally got the courage to tell her (he was heartbroken) and the following christmas she had made another one for him.

Re: help again

yup, those are pineapples--teeny tiny ones (insert little smiley with glasses--where'd he go?)! You should check out stargazer's pineapple list or stargazer's doily list to see if you can find something close.

Re: help again

kari -
when my kids have their rest this afternoon i will search around. i have LOTS of doily books from my great-(&grgreat)grandmother. i have them stashed away --- so nothing will happen to them and because doilies are not my thing....
some of them are marked with the price of 3cents!!!
a side note=
i was at hobby lobby the other day and saw a book they were calling back again or something like that, but anyway, it was a reprint of a book from the 40's --- i have the original! isn't that funny
