afgahn pattern for varigated yarn

I know I saw some where an afgahn pattern that had squares that have varigated yarn in the middle of them with sold colors around the out side. I have a lot of scrap varigated yarn and thought this would work up great as a patch type pattern.

Or if you have any other ideas to do with the varigated scrap I would love to hear your ideas.

The sample pic is in solids, but I've done an afghan out of this pattern:

Friendship Jewel

using variegated yarn in the center and solid around the edges.

Most any square pattern can be done with variegated in the center and then finished in solids.
