Awareness Ribbon
I made these for my sister in law. She just had her 2nd round of chemo yesterday. The first ones I sent to her she loved, and has asked me to make more. So instead of winging it each time, I made a simple pattern. The white edging isn't counted exactly, but it's really simple. I used pink for breast cancer, that's what Justine has. Thought I'd share the pattern with you. She's using them in a memory book, she wants to keep track of everything, so she knows where and how far she has come. She has a good outlook, and is excited for her future, and thanks Jesus for it. Here's the pattern, make it with your awareness color, which ever you support. They would be very pretty as pins to wear on a shirt, or bag, they might be used to give to those who do charity walks, possibilities are endless. There have been questions off and on about selling these. Yes, it is ok to sell, fund-raise, anything you need to do to help support and remember loved ones and friends. I must say I am humbled by the response, thank you all for using this pattern. God bless you all. Awareness Ribbon.... # 10 thread size # 7, or 8 hook can be used Your color choice. ch 38, dc in 4th ch from hook, (first skipped 3chs count as first dc) dc in next 15 chs, { 3dc in next 6 chs} dc in next 14chs, 2dc in last ch. fasten off. Attach white in last dc made, working 2sc around/over last dc made, sc, ch1, sc in first chain forming inner corner, (now working the inner edge of ribbon) sc in each ch sp, skip 1 sp in center (where ribbon bends over its self), sc in each ch sp to the 1st ch of the "first skipped 3 chs counting as a dc" sc, ch1, sc in same sp, 2sc over dc, sc, ch1, sc in top of this to form corner, (now working the outer edge of ribbon) 1sc in each dc till you reach the next corner, sc, ch1, sc to form last corner, slst to join. Fasten off and weave in ends. *The little one is made the same way, just with fewer starting chains and hdc instead of dc. * Block as usual, I stiffened mine with "Stiffen Stuff", it's about $5.99 a bottle at Michaels and is in the glue isle. Starch or block so it lays flat. I did put a tiny tiny dot of hot glue in between where the ribbon crosses over it's self, just to keep it in place. (after stiffening) I wrote this quickly, and on the pc just now, so if there is a mistake please let me know so I can fix it. I always re-do a pattern several times to ensure quality, this was so small and basic, I just hurried to get it posted. Enjoy! Last edited by heart; February 10, 2009 at 02:50 PM. |

thanks for sharing the pattern.
I'll use it to embellish chemo caps and blankets. |

THANK YOU!![]() I made up 7 of these so far tonight (and I'm going to make a few more yet tonight)! I am going to donate these to a teacher that my son had last year who is a survivor. She will be doing the Relay For Life again next year (in May). I'm thinking that she can get donations for them for her team (Voices Of Hope). I can't wait to show her these (I will probably see her Monday when I volunteer at the school)! I hope that all goes well with your sister-in-law. She will be in my thoughts and prayers! ![]() Thank you so much for sharing this pattern!

These are great! Thanks for posting!
Between a husband who is overseas and a friend going through radiation, I'm sure this pattern will get a lot of use! Thanks! Jackie |

Thank you, this can be used for so many of the causes with just a change of color. It's great.
