How do you recycle a sweater?

I was just reading a knitting blog and she makes hats and mittens out of the yarn she unravels from old wool sweaters.

How do you unravel a sweater?

I have a yarn winder so that would help.

TIA

This is one of the best tutorial's I have found.

I love to use old sweaters for many things...sweater arms can become leg warmers and last year I made all new Christmas stockings for my children from old sweaters (just cut out a stocking pattern and stitched it up).

This site looks very good. I use old sweaters all the time. I get lots of yarn I could never afford that way!
